I just learned that Gunther has once again lost any sense of fashion, if the coloring person is following directions. The turquoise compact discs on his sweater clash mightily with the pea green shirt.

Actually, she’s supposed to be studying quartz. For geology class. Explain it to her in terms of jewelry and “healing crystals” and she should have no problem.

USA quarts only apply for the USA and its territories. It is 32 fluid ounces. The old British quart (yes, they went metric) is 40 fluid ounces. The fluid ounce is the same size in both systems.

A quart is a liquid measure of volume and capacity. The weight of whatever one has a quart of has no bearing on the fact that it is a quart by volume. Luanaphile has it right; Gunther should talk about a quart of feathers and a quart of lead. (On a separate subject, I like the colors used for Gunther’s outfit.)

    “Quarts,” SMORTS!

Gunther! FOR-GET “OJ,” Who is up for Parole next year, and MEASURE Tiffany for Something. I Dunno! Work it into Your Enginnering Project. You know, “Load Bearing and Comparitive Bra Sizes,” or some such. Have Tiff and Lu standing side by side for Demonstration Purposes, in Your Class. With Luck, maybe the Two of them will Start Fighting.

    You’ll get at least a “B+.”

Wait till she asks him about concentations. I used to have a miserable time with some posters who would mention the volume of a med, without knowing that some come in different concentrations, because they would not understand that the weight of the med in the dose was what mattered, so along w the volume there was a need to have the concentration to do the little math problem and figure the dose the ferret was getting. Some could finally see the importance when i showed with simple math because they would grasp the basic multiplication when numbers were compared (as in 10 is twice as big as 5), but for some people i had to first explain concentration as thinking of a broth vs a thicker soup with the ingredients blended in, how both have liquid measurements but the latter has more of the solids in the same volume.

Quart or courts, its makes no real difference, they make a cute couple of “friends.” Tiffany is more vulnerable and human, but so trusting with Gunther, and Gunther is so kind, understanding, and while still a wonk, is really such a treasure to her. Whether it will, or should, develop into something more remains a subject of speculation, but I am happy, as a Trufan, to see the character development and the characteristics this relationship is showing in the strip. I still want Rosa to come back, but it is nice to see Tiff and Gunther together and have a relief from the wedding arc, but where does this go, or is it just a Sunday intermission?

It has always amused me that people and places that have resisted changing to metric and continue to use avoirdupois in all other contexts never had a problem for the last 100 years understanding what an 8mm, 16mm or 35mm camera was. Or their lens sizes.

Converting people over means having then comfy w the measures. The best way is through kids, but not just using the numbers in core classes. Instead, every day applications are needed: sewing, carpentry, auto repair, cooking. Visualizing what a measurement means involves using it often, developing a habit of thinking in those sizes.

Now, if Gunther wanted to really confuse Tiffany, he could introduce her to the old Danish Number System:http://www.olestig.dk/dansk/numbers.htmlAnd you thought Roman Numerals got weird for calculations… ;-)

Cute interaction between these two. I was afraid from this week’s strip with Luann teasing Gunther about measuring her, that Greg was going to take us back to Luann and Gunther- ick.

I agree with Bird, and I’ll take it a step further. Gunther has looked more mature until this week, Broader chest, stronger jawline, more intense eyes. I like this sweeter disposition from his pre-Peruvian days, but it was good to see him mature. The sweater vests have go to go. Nobody, not even nerds, wear them. This Gunther looks like a high school freshman with scraggly beard. Bleck. The others have been allowed to mature and stay fashionable current; do the same for Gunther, please.

Several years ago, and I can’t locate it, Gunther and Rosa had a very similar conversation and came to a very similar conclusion. Rosa told Gunther about her dad who was an ambassador and how she had lived in several countries. Gunther said his life had been nothing like that and noted how different they were. Rosa said despite the different backgrounds, they were still very much alike. This was the beginning of their romance. Now its Gunther’s turn to note that he and Tiffany have discovered that they have some common ground. Could this be the start of an actual relationship? Despite the comments of die hard snipers, Gunther is not gay and is capable of a very torrid romance with Tiffany. However, I think she will have to make the first move.

Quarts are always volume, the confusion would be if it was ounces, where the measure could be weight or volume.

he world lost a very good guy with the death of Arnold Palmer. Besides being a sports star, he has been very involved in charitable work. Here in Central Florida, he was responsible for starting the fund raising for not just one but two hospitals. One takes care of critically ill children and newborns.

Mr. Palmer set an example that may never be equaled.
