Mr. Spaetzle: Where did summer go?
Caulfield: Tempus fugit. I figured out how to gripe like everybody else but sound better doing it.
Frazz: And they say latin is a dead language.
I only got one year of Latin because I transferred and the 2nd school didn’t offer it, but it’s been invaluable in dealing both with English and with other European languages.
I taught Latin to seminarians. Difficult job because they didn’t know anything about English. I made up "googlio, googliare, googliavi, googliatus, -a, -um (to look up on the internet). They thought it was for real. Solvitur googliando.
You really don’t get it, do you BP? Just like a sci-fi writer can more palatably get the point across using an alien race, Mallett gives the insight to a kid. That same line coming from an adult would elicit a “Duh.”
In our family, it was tempus fugit et fugere: time flies so it is time to get out of here..bigpumaYes, it is an annual tradition – like Christmas or April fool.
A friend once remarked, “Julius Caesar is said to have mastered three things. I don’t care his mastery of government and war, but why did he have to master literature?” Besides, he knew perfectly well Gaul was not divided into three parts. He had troops from Spain and the Balderics, and fought Gauls in the Danube valley.

They should teach Latin, still the backbone of Spanish, Italian and French along with parts of many other European languages.

I studied Latin for two years in high school. I think it might have been better for me to learn Spanish.
