Bridesmaids were originally directed to dress just like the bride, this was “intended to confuse evil spirits or those who wished to harm the bride.”

Luann is turning out to be quite creative. But, what happened to the idea of Mrs. and Mr. Daytona? Will Toni’s words sting Brad to death?

Will Toni have any other bridesmaids? If so, who? (Their gowns are supposed to match, of course.) Surely she must may made at least one close female friend, at some time in her life.

Yesterday there was discussion about using hyphens to cause strikeouts in text. Does anyone know a link to documentation of all the markup language available for this site?

Now a days bridesmaids like to have their own personal touches to their dresses.

Hmmm. . . Seems like Prudence is hinting that Luann is making the wedding about her (i.e., focusing on herself, as usual).

Well, the right-hand outfit is something Luann might wear at her own wedding, and Pru might wear some leather stuff like Bettie Page, who she resembles.^For any newcomers who think that I’m just dreaming up a prurient possibility out of thin air, please note that just last fall, Pru explicitly disclosed to Luann and Bernice that she’s a lesbian. That was just at the time of Luann’s breakup with Quill, and Luann hasn’t since showed much interest in finding another guy. She did, however, become very enamored with Pru, even if in just a platonic sense as the “big sister she never had”. Shortly after that, Luann and Bernice went to New York and met some of Pru’s friends – mostly gay.^The Evanses may never take it beyond this, but I felt it was a deliberate tease about possibilities. Who knows?

I’m hoping the bridesmaid dress display – so far – demonstrates the limitations of Greg’s fashion stylings, rather than Luann’s. I mean, what we’re seeing so far seems to demonstrate that Luann is barking up the wrong tree = er = academic emphasis.

Pru needs to get a grease pencil, and draw herself some eyebrows, she always looks surprised :p

The Toni seems to be acting about her wedding, I’m guessing she’d appreciate Luann taking the spotlight off her at the wedding.

Listen to Pru. You can design a gorgeous ensemble, but is it appropriate for the function?*BTW- if you actually plan on using your design, you will need someone to make a pattern and someone to sew it. Can you do either one?

Please!!! She lives in their house, She could have “checked” Luann out anytime. Pru is checking out the dress designs not Luann. I was not going to comment on this being a straight man, who tries his best to purge any hint of homophobia from my belief or behavior, but to assume that a lesbian is out trying to seduce a straight woman, is the same prejudice that men used to and still use to justify beating up homosexual men (they think are anyway) who the straight men think are hitting on them. Homosexuals in general are not trying to seduce straight people, whichever the gender. It’s unreconstructed stereotypical belief based on prejudice and misunderstanding, and I felt a need to call it for what it is, homophobia. Stop it please.

2If things go in keeping with Toni’s preferences and supposedly Brad’s plans… it may very well be that there is only the maid of honor (Luann) and the best man (presumably, TJ). In a smaller, simpler wedding that can be very common. For my wife and I, we had a similar arrangement as above… a matron of honor and a best man besides the groom (me) and the bride (my wife). We decided that for us, the most important thing in our wedding was the mass itself, and so we had the other components be secondary. So, if Toni & Brad have that same approach in whatever their venue will be… and Luann IS the only female maid of honor/attendant…. she will really have nearly free reign (hopefully within the confines of good taste) to design the dress how she (and hopefully Toni) see fit.

Question to ponder:This seems like the longest continual story arc I have seen here in Luann. This is the fourth week of the same basic arc. Now, I may obviously be wrong and not recalling some other arc lasting this long, but I cannot think of one.I am hoping however, that the wedding arc IS NOT the only arc we see through the December wedding. I can admit that there are a lot of ways that the wedding/moving plans could easily occupy the next 8-10 weeks…. but I sincerely hope that is not the case. I would hate to have no return to other arcs until after the wedding. I am contemplating this, because I was feeling pretty confident that last Saturday, this would have been the end of the wedding arc for at least a while. But, I was wrong. What do others think?

Doesn’t Brad’s desire for a big wedding imply that there would be bridesmaids and groomsmen? (We know that there will be a flower girl!)

I’m also confused by her dresses – frumpiest, still frumpy, and somehow frumpy with a slit skirt, with cute bandeau top. Which of course is ridiculous.

Commonly, all the bridesmaids, few or many, wear similar dresses. But I suppose as maid of honor to Toni and sister of the groom, Luann can be allowed to indulge her unique tastes….

Since Pru and Mr. Gray are the strip’s deus ex machina characters, no doubt one (or both) of them sews and can whip out as many bridesmaids’ gowns as requested.

Gunther so far remains the strip’s atelier for special clothing production. A sketch might work for class but if a physical item is needed, then we might even get a Gunther and Zebo interaction. Here is a question: if a physical copy is required, but someone designs a tat, or elaborate hairdo or makeup – say very scifi – as the wearable art, then what happens? Hmmmm, will the project be due around Halloween?

Archivists help, please. Was Luann happy with Gunther’s sartorial creations? I ask because, if Gunther were to design something, wouldn’t it be at Luann’s behest?

Argy2, years ago there was a hilarious show in which the (resurrected) main character had been killed as a teenager by a falling toilet lid from a failed space station.

From NY Times story about their split-up: The master tailor Luigi Massi of Atelier Versace made Ms. Jolie Pitt’s wedding dress, incorporating designs from her children’s drawings.So, I think we should hold out for Luigi. Perhaps Luigi or Bust T-shirts made for us Trufans. Shannon’s wall-art could form the basis for Toni’s dress.

Oh, yeah, and will the maid of honor throw a shower? I regrettably didn’t when I was maid of honor— didn’t think of it. As guests on the registry, I need to start shopping for both shower & wedding gifts. Maybe a donation to their favorite charity?

If anyone remembers, some of us have the song list for the wedding and reception archived and at the ready, and enough songs to fill at least 2-3 CDs.

yes Luann…the wedding is about the bride not thebridesmaid(s). Why don’t you design a dress for Toni instead of yourself?

Perhaps Luann will remain 18 for at least the next few years, maybe until Greg retires. Luann, Bernice, Gunther, Tiffany, and Quill (if he doesn’t drop out to become an actor) will forever be in their nebulous “freshmore” year of college.

Will Gunther take Tiffany to the wedding? Will Bernice invite Piro? Will harmless Ox escort Pru, or will she bring her own girl? And, Luann, the big question, who? I don’t care much for weddings, so I’m more interested in the side line dramas, and of course the food. I would almost prefer a jury duty summons to a wedding invitation.
