If he really wants to know, he should check online. My guess as to the answer is that we have nose hairs to filter out airborne contaminants. Now off to Google to see how close I am to the truth.

The real question is why those of us with male pattern baldness seem to have accelerated growth of hair in our noses and ears.

Yes, the nose hairs act as a sort of “filter” for larger particulates much like the mossy sort of filter many of us have in our furnace…. it doesn’t catch much, but it does some. The mucous lining in our nasal passage collects more fine particulates than the hairs prevent from entering.

As I have worn a beard and mustache for more decades than is necessary to mention, I have let my own nose hairs simply blend into my mustache. :)

Tweezers are for ear hair, nose hair is best handled with either scissors or finger nail clippers (in a pinch).

Part of our filtration system, random genetics, need to clip that. Next?

I’ve always thought the reason for both nose and ear hair was to warn us about bugs getting into our heads. I’m surprised nobody has mentioned that. (And our pinky fingers evolved to fit both.)

a) Evolution, to filter out air pollutants, dust and dirt.

b) Because people don’t practice proper grooming.
