My dad actually used to do that. He had a soap mold. He’d take the leftover bits of soap and then soften them in hot water then mold them into a circular bar of soap.
There’s nothing so crazy about saving the last sliver of soap. I don’t actually use bar soap anymore. I use liquid soap. But when I did use bar soap, I did like others here and stuck the sliver to the new bar. I also make sure I get every last little bit of toothpaste out of the tube and I even pick up pennies I find on the ground. Sometimes the “penny” turns out to be a dime! I made over $40 each of the past 2 years picking up coins that people dropped.
Thank god you folks bathe and use soap….Seems a lot of “Scody”(old navy term) cruds still don’t…Why I use the quick check out line at the supermarket…Hey lady that “splash” doesn’t keep you from smelling like a sandhog in July….
I haven’t used bar soap for quite a few years. I use liquid soap. But I will upend the old bottle on top of the new bottle (lids off) to make sure nothing is wasted. Same thing, I guess.

Makes me wonder if Earl and Opal grew up as children/teenagers in the Depression those approbate 80 years ago.

I just add the sliver to a new bar of soap and never waste any.

I remember my mother doing this in the 60s. She even had a soap press.

It is depressing when you have to resort to that.

Me too. Stick the sliver on top of a new bar at the end of a shower… by the next one it’s dry and stuck. No problem.
Of course, my parents taught me that… and they were teenagers in the depression…

I keep a small cup with the small slivers in it and put a little water in it so they all mush together.

I agree with Earl—when I started reading this I thought she must be in Great Depression-mode.

Should have just called it Frankensoap.

You can buy mesh bags in the drugstore just for soap slivers. I’ve used them for years and I never have to throw soap away.

A more palatable way to do it is to pour boiling water over a bunch of soap scraps and put them into a pump bottle to use as liquid soap.

I take home the little bar of soap I used from hotels and add it to the current soap. Otherwise it gets thrown out.

Life is too short to worry about a tiny sliver of soap. Sheesh!

When you have little money and also an ethic of thriftiness, you don’t waste any.

People might not agree but I think some people go too overboard with re-using.

I too, used to do this when I used bar soap. I use soft soap now, so it is no longer necessary.

If you’re been there, then you’ve done that.
