Ah, college in the 80s. A “Hi, Bob.” side note: always start with the good stuff as you won’t notice the switch to the plonk.

IFS: same applies to whiskey. First a barrel bourbon or a single malt, then blended.

Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.

Hi Bob?? Is this equivalent to MD 20/20 and Boone’s Farm? I assume the “good stuff” is Two Buck Chuck Charles Shaw at Trader Joe’s, now $299 or three buck Chuck)

It will be the sign of the apocalypse when my spouse spontaneously or otherwise serves me a glass of wine and asks me to relax.

At a Second City revue I attended, one of the sketches included a couple at a restaurant where the man ordered “Ripple.” The waiter deadpanned, “What year?” Someone seated near us was heard to say “He should have asked ‘What month?’” And the waiter made the proper show of twisting the cap off the pantomime bottle.

I suppose one would have to be a wine expert to get this. A&J has become too cryptic.

Okay, so now I know what the game is, but I still don’t see how it works as a punchline.

So I’ve got to think A&J make good money, so WHY would you even HAVE house Plonk?? I’m not into wine, but if I’m buying its only the good stuff. Life is to short to drink junk.

@JP STEVE I assume that it relates to the bringing out the good stuff first, then the less good.

If I didn’t watch so much PBS I wouldn’t have known what ‘plonk’ is.
