From this day point of view: what is this thing they used to call a carburetor?

It uses a scale of one to ten to rate the engine’s carbs!

I once described something as functioning “just like a carburetor” to a young engineer I was training. 10 minutes later I caught him googling it. Sigh. Must be getting old.

dad’s parenting skills are still hovering around zero. someday he’ll grow up.

Maybe when Calvin turns older, Dad might tell him how a carburetor works

Ancient astronaut theorists suggest that the ancient aliens who transferred their knowledge of science and technology to humans kept the knowledge of how a carburetor works a secret, as it could give the humans a hint about how the space-time portal works, which might lead humans to their home planet…

Calvin seems to be getting smarter.

Of course he doesn’t know. Actually, the gas goes in somehow, it gets used somehow, and the car moves. Simple, isn’t it?

Crap, I knew how a carburetor worked by the time I was 10, booster venturis, emulsion tubes, idle circuits and all. My day didn’t have the slightest clue, though…

Carburetor? Is that a Yugo he’s washing?

I explain the carburetor like a gizmo you attach to a hose with a small jar with a hose in it that the pressure from the water rushing past draw the soap out. But now people just buy pressure washers.

Oh I did not need this one today — Dang it Dad! Why did you get cancer and leave us too soon!!!! My dad was an automotive encyclopedia (and had engineering degrees) before I could drive I had to assist in getting a car into proper running order first. That included knowing how the engine worked.

I don’t remember dad tell me many times that he loved me, but making sure his first born daughter could take care of a car herself, man, he must have really hated me… NOT!!!
