My grandmother offered us a lot next to her house when we got married. We are SO lucky we found this house instead. It would have been “Pickles” all over.

The dad had appeared when Earl was digging a hole in their yard. Anyway, Nelson is being raised by his grandparents.

That’s a little too intrusive – even for my wife !

When you share a two family house, as we do, then you go out of your way to give each other “space” and privacy. Certain unspoken rules apply…

I am always gratified that my step-son, his wife and kids, always ask permission to come into our second floor apartment or use the 3rd floor roof patio. Likewise, we would never think of entering their ground floor quarters without asking.

That doesn’t mean that Abuela Maite( Grandma Maite ) isn’t down there often, with a plate of food or goodies – she is !

I wouldn’t in a million years live next to any of my relatives! Not that I don’t like them or get along with them well, I just like to have a certain amount of privacy.

This ought to do it. They may go to a different country now. I hear it’s nice in Costa Rica.

My aunt who raised me once heard me and my significant other in the middle of the night during one of her hot flashes. We lived across the street, I thought it was a good idea before.

My husband and I lived next door to my mom for 23 years. We were (and still are) very good friends. I could look out my living room and see if her bedroom light was on and vice versa. If we wanted to talk after hubbies went to bed, she would flash a light at my window or I would go out into her yard and toss pebbles at her window (she and dad, by this time, slept in different beds – mom snored). We both had keys to each others houses, but never came over without permission. She took care of our daughter after school. It was a wonderful time. Wish it could have lasted. My job intervened. We had to move, but fortunately not more than an hour away. :o)
