My 3 and 6 year old grandkids each have a tablet and watch any preloaded Disney/Pixar movie their little heart desires. I’m not saying it’s good but it seems to be a trend.
I retract earlier statement about loss of icons on right end of comic strips and missing comments access. All are present on spouse’s pc. and on laptop.
Obvious glitch in desktop pc software, especially since recent firefox update.
Since we seem to be in a nostalgia competition here, I can recall nickel Wednesdays and Saturday matinees at our local ‘B’ movie theater here. Bedlam would break out, especially on Saturdays, if, after the movieton news, something called ‘Fitzpatrick Traveltalks’ popped up on the screen.
When I was a kid in the Dark Ages about 9 or 10 years old, I would be taken to a Saturday matinee where they would play 20 cartoons, a Superman serial (Kirk Alyn was Superman) and some scary Bela Lugosi movie. It was like Shea Stadium later on with the Beatles—the noise was deafening, and you couldn’t hear the dialogue. Before the Superman series was shot, it was mostly cartoons and various other serials when I was 5 or 6. My mom was a total wreck after each trip to the theater, but she was game. One of the reasons I loved her.
In my day, the local school district ran a Kids’ Movie Day at the Middle School Gym. For Twenty-five cents we got Two cartoons, the next episode of a Republic Serial, and the Main Feature. And Five-cent candy bars!

Kiddy? No violent scenes? Darn it.

What do you suppose this movie was? What kind of strange kids movies were there in the eighties that Calvin’s mom wouldn’t want to sit through?
One of my thoughts was the Care Bears movie, but I doubt Calvin would want to watch that.

Calvin had a whole bunch of fun at the movies, and the movie was okay too, he guesses!

Maybe next week dad can take him to the early morning 50 Cartoon Show.

A most compelling argument. ;-)

In the 50’s, the movie theater would run 20 color cartoons. Usually by Looney Tunes. For 15 cents.

In the early ‘80s, buying a ’video player’ meant taking out a second mortgage.

Calvin didn’t care what the movie was. He was running, yelling, throwing popcorn, and pulling hair.

Were VCRs really that expensive back then or were Calvin’s parents just too cheap to get one?

We used to go to the movies by ourselves in the 50s. 8 cents for kids up to 12, and you were 11 until you had to shave.

Calvin must’ve taken a break from Hobbes; no Hobbes from Sunday to today. I guess Calvin is still mad at Hobbes for tying him up last week.

I feel old. I clearly remember owning a VCR and knowing they were all the “Hype” back then.
