I’m back! Hope you guys behaved. To TYGE and FAWZBONE, no, we did not have either cell or WiFi. We could barely get the radio to work. It was heavenly!
Where in the country are they supposed to be? I thought they were in some New England state or something similar – far from any possibility of finding gators in your pond.
I’m wondering if Arlo is going to be disappointed to learn that it’s really just a piece of driftwood.
think. What happened to Galveston TX in 1900. The same thing happened for hundreds of years before weather satellites. The locals had learned what types of weather preceded hurricanes and learned when to head for higher ground.IMVPO I think that the advent of the machine age started the increase in strength of North American hurricanes. Same with Pacific Cyclones(I was in Biloxi MS 2 blocks from the Gulf when Camille hit in 1969 and in Queensland AUS in 2011 for Cyclone Yasi. Both Cat 5 storms. Was in the AF in 69. The experts thought that Camille was going to hit Tampa, so we, along with our airplanes evacuated to Biloxi, then had to hunker down when it turned to Biloxi.I saw an ocean going cargo ship on the land side of Hiway 90. Took the Navy SeaBees a couple of years to dig a channel to refloat the ship)
Wait, does anyone really feed alligators? I can (kind of) understand why someone would be stupid enough to feed a bear, but alligators are scaly, not furry, and most people I have known tend to dislike scaly animals.
They live in Mississippi. Arlo and Janis live in a suburb of Jackson, while the kids are several hours away on the Mississippi Gulf Coast—possibly Pass Christian (or one of those other towns on the way to New Orleans on Hwy 90) which is where I think Mr Johnson lives as well. I taught at the U of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Regional Campus and did graduate work (artificial lightning!) at Mississippi State. My guess is that Gene was at U of S Mississippi in Hattiesburg, closer to the Coast but quite a ride to Jackson. MS is a nice place, and we’d still be there if not extracted to Ohio for career purposes.

Mississippi is one of the the poorest if poorest states in the Union. Near bottom on all the scales. Many black Americans suffer slowly there.
