There are two groups in this society that I can’t stand. Some people are hyper sensitive and thin-skinned, and you have walk on egg shells around them, because they’re so easily offended. And then there are others who are just rude and insulting, pretend that being a rude jerk is brave and honest. And they call it “political correctness” to object to their total lack of decent manners.
And these are often the same person. People who insult others, but whine like children when they think it’s aimed at THEM.
When did the word “stewardess” become “bad” (“politically incorrect”?) It’s merely the female version of “steward”, which I believe is still considered a respected position on board ships. In fact, on a ship, the position of “steward” carries more authority and respect than a mere “attendant”.
I do remember the first time I encountered the term “flight attendant”, but it was used to refer to a man, who clearly didn’t want to be called “stewardess” (and maybe wasn’t familiar with the term “steward”?).
Growing up I was taught it was politeness not ‘political correctness’. It only seems polite not to use words that bring needless pain but I guess politeness is passe now.

My sister-in-law is a [Delta] flight attendant. I wouldn’t know if she gets a little TO’d over “stewardess.”

I remember once back in the 90s being on a flight where this one elderly woman was motioning to the flight attendant and saying, “Oh waitress!”

It will be Rat’s fate to be served by androgynous male flight attendants from now on.
