Yep, in our home, it’s the opposite, my hubby will start clearing the counter of everything when i cook, even though i sometimes still need some spices or utensils for the meal.
The Late and Unlamented never, ever helped with the dishes, but for some reason he’d so this when I was sewing. My pins would vanish as soon as I got the pattern on the fabric, the scissors would disappear almost in mid-snip. Drove me WILD.
Ditto. I’m the one who cleans in my house. If I don’t do it during the cooking, then I have to do it after we’ve finished eating and at that point, I want to relax with my wife in front of the TV!
This is why I arranged my day off to be the one that my wife is away from home the longest, so I can peacefully spend six hours homebrewing without having to wait to get at the sink only to find the strainer basket removed, finding my implements or ingredients moved, hear complaints about the spills of water long before I’m done, or being asked to do other things while I’m busy. Yet she is the one holding up construction of a garage that would get me out of the kitchen. For me, homebrewing is a solitary, meditative process. Interruptions disrupt the flow and calm.

It’s a pain when your utensils disappear before you’re through with them!

In my house, when I cook, I clean; sorta. Well… At least I load the dish washer and sink and wipe the stove and counters.

I do it out of self-defense otherwise the mess is unmanageable after supper

I’m a clean-as-you-go cook. My husband is a make-a-mess-and-she’ll-clean-it-up cook. Not fair, but there it is.

Cleaning as you go, if you can make it work, makes clean up after easier.
That’s from years of practice.

Yes, why would anyone need clean, sanitary conditions while preparing food?

I have the same problem with my tools in the workshop. And I’m alone in there. I figure it must be gremlins.

I understand cleaning as you go, but, cleaning utensils while something is still cooking makes MORE work!

I do the cleanup and have done this to my wife more than once.

I have heard from some chefs who clean as they go. Just don’t get in the way of the chef.

My wife complained that I didn’t clean up after I cooked, but she’d take a spoon or whisk I was still using and put it in the dishwasher.
