While growing up my mother used to tell me, “Don’t telephone, don’t telegraph, tell a woman and the whole world will know.”
I just looked this saying up, turns out it’s from a country music song as sung by Tex Williams or Roy Hogsed. (I thought it was “Hodges” at first, but it seems to be correct as written.)
Wondering if the above is sexist. And now…Tex Williams:
My chili came in second place in a chili cook-off and a friend tried it and claimed that he could make “better chili” and by “better” he meant “hotter” so he made it so hot that he could not even eat it so I took it off his hands and ate it over rice. Still no one else claimed his chili was “better”.
So when I see such a challenge, I always wonder what standard they are going to use for the winner.

Forget the chili. The real question is, who makes the best COFFEE in that household?

She may have had ground beef and bean soup, but I doubt she’s had real chili!

Kate has learned to sow discord between the parental units to draw attention away from her.
