Aunt Bev is John’s sister and if I recall, they grew up on a farm, so I think John would know to tell Elly to pack old clothes for their stay at the farm. John would know farm is a dirty work and city people tend to wear trendy and fancy clothes which have no place on a farm except perhaps at dinner time after bath or when they go into town.
True, but then again Michael has stayed with them many times before; plus he is on a farm so one should expect mud etc. As Michael is being a complete teenager at the moment (non-stop sulking, bad manners, rudeness, ingratitude etc) perhaps Uncle Danny is just giving him a little reminder that the Universe does not, in fact, revolve around him. Feeding calves is fun! Cows are great creatures.
I am not sure what is going on here. I thought milk mixers were large tanks where the milk from several farms is mixed together into a single product. I don’t know why you would need a milk mixer to produce milk to feed to calves. If anything, I would expect Uncle Danny to pasteurize milk fed to calves to prevent Johne’s bacteria, E. coli, salmonella, or mycoplasma in the raw milk from making the calves sick. Any dairy farmers out there who can shed some light on the matter?
Mike is getting a repeat on what must have happened on past visits. Is he just slow on the uptake or, as someone said, too immerse in himself to remember?
At least the colorist fixed the Uncle’s facial hair! And even went back and fixed the OLD strips (including Michael’s “receding hairline”)! I wonder who’s doing all that thankless work?
The family probably packed on good set of clothes for church and possibly for Christmas dinner. Doubtful Michael’s parents would let him attend either in what he is currently wearing.
This dose not have to do with the stripe but reminds me of having to collect eggs. My fun loving grandfather never told me I had to get the hens of the nest before getting the eggs. Got pecked a lot til my grandmother came out and showed me.. My grandfather was laughing like a loon. I was a yankee and still am …. fond memories of the past….

Down at the Grange, they talk about the dairy farmer who fired any farmhand that lost toes from having the cows step on them.
That was one dairyman who was lack-toes intolerant!

A washing machine?
No, that’s really a milk mixer.
So you are saying it’s a wringer?

Common practice on dairy farms – milk the cows and feed the calves a replacement. (This is where veal comes from)
