“…teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”

I’ve known very few would-be sailors who have attempted to build their own boats (though I have known a few), and not many more who have even been interested in doing so. Those interested in banding together to build a “ship” have been even rarer.

Meanwhile, I know of no reliable means of “teaching” individuals to “yearn” for a particular goal or way of life.

Now they’re grumbling and sweating because they have to row.

First the sails must be unfurled before even one tree is felled.

I believe it took Noah and his three sons between 100 and 120 years to build the ark, depending on which way you measure. Pretty steady work for four men to build a ship almost 500 feet long, 75-100 feet wide and about 45 feet tall. The ones made recently vary, but according to the Bible’s account of the displacement, dry it would have had to weigh in at a minimum of 16,000 tons. Heck of a job. They must have worked like beavers.
