Provoking an unstable radical, like Lucas into a murderous rage and then killing him, is an interesting method of extracting information. Or had Jacob already decided he wonāt get anything useful from him at that point?
She is half correct. Prejudice persists because the assumptions are not thought about, but where do the assumptions come from? Jacob is correct that there must have been a catalyst to turn the fear of the Other into the assumption that wolves are eating pigs. Thatās where Jacobās earlier comments are importantādoes embracing their mutated forms necessarily lead to turning on each other? It seems to me that the shadowy forces that were feeding propaganda to Foxworthy are the catalyst Jacob is looking for that is creating the assumptions of prejudice.
At least the pig murders are finally being addressed again, itās been far too long since the spotlight was on them.
But again, Jackrabbit has a point in that it doesnāt truly make sense why people would just blame the wolves and no-one else, especially when Endtown is crawling with other predators. The people really behind the murders might have something to do with it, itād be better for them to have a scapegoat rather than simply casting suspicion on anyone in Endtown with sharp teeth.
I gotta say that Jackrabbit should cool it with jeering at cartoon tropes though given that the pigs in the strip are shown to be tiny and helpless and generally piglet-like, whereas real pigs, even the smallest ones, range from medium dog-sized to 700 pounds. Itād be a very different sort of feeling if the pig mutants were closer to Gustineās stature, haha. A lot of the mutants seem to have cartoony animal-tropes ā Holly loves cheese, the rats are numerous and horrible, that short-lived snake woman talked about āsmelling fearā, Maude heavily lactating in spite of (from what I remember) never having children, etc.
So, weāre back to the pig murders. And yes, some of the wolves may have had reason to believe that some of the non-wolves were hiding their leather purses and pigskins from them when they got on the buses, or when entering hospital waiting rooms. Getting the side-eye when they chased after pigs and chanted āsuu-iiieeā. So, what was really at the heart of all that, that stuff that made their loins burn like that?
Itās pretty obvious that this whole kerfuffle has been concocted from the very begining. Now the real purpose may be just to depose Jake, but Iām starting to get the feeling that there is more going on than just that.
True, it could be an assumptions ā¦ but then people are ignorant who tend to believe a lot of things that isnĀ“t true ā taking it for granted without, or possibly because they simply canĀ“t, research things for themself. All it takes is a few people spreading a rumor, and the wolves acting accordingly.
Iāve just been following this strip for a few weeks, but went back to the beginning and caught up, and one observation I have is that the commentary has been getting a whole lot more thoughtful and intense than in the early years. Makes the strip more enjoyable.

I wonder, does Jake get the reports about what they found out about the pig carcasses? Or is that strictly police business?

This could be the beginning of a good team to figure out whatās really going on in Endtown.

As someone who watches a lot of cop and procedural dramas I gotta say I am VERY interested in getting to the bottom of the pig murder case.

I also was hoping Lucas would say who was āinspiringā him. Now heās metabolically-challenged, so no answers there. Maybe in his home?
