Garfunkel and Oates tried this on their short-lived sitcom. Noticing that the girls who never spoke always seemed to have plenty of dates, they decided to go mute. At the end of the episode, Kate discovered that her new boyfriend thought she was mentally handicapped.

Go ahead, sit back, close your mouth and then move your jaw just enough to feel the muscles work. Then do your best to just relax those muscles. Don’t move them at all. Relax ‘em for a while. You’ll be surprised at the subtle relief it brings…..Almost makes you want to go mute for a while…….Go ahead……..I dare ya…….

I dunno, some people seem to seek out quiet folks and talk at them forever… it’s especially fun when one of them is working with customers and the result is a big ol’ line behind them.

I’m having trouble deciding between “The Wise Old Owl” nursery rhyme or the famous Edmund Burke quote.

    You worry me to death

    You talk too much

    You even worry my pet

The secret, is not just to keep quiet, but listen to the silence, and enjoy it.

Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.
