My favorite memories are of my sons rolling on the ice with the other players like a pack of bear cubs who couldn’t get up. We laughed more than was appropriate, but all the parents from both teams laughed together.
BTW, my youngest was a goalie, and the first time he put on all that gear he could barely move!
I have seen only one Ice Hockey match live, but it was “little atoms” day, and all we could see of the youngsters was the top of their helmets peeping above the wall… they all had to come out of the dug out over the wall because that was what the real players did!
One youngster managed to skate the length of the ice with the puck and scored a goal, only to fall over backwards when he threw up his arms in triumph.
It was much more entertaining than the actual match!
Ah, yes… hockey is the only sport where everybody is constantly in the process of falling down! (For the goalie, “falling down” can be the best possible move!)
Errr… not being disrespectful, I hope, but out here in GB where ice hockey is pretty much a minority interest, we tend to think of the game as an ocassion for a massed brawl with no holds barred, punctuated by occassional intervals of chasing the puck and trying to score goals. At what point in the learning process do otherwise adorable little Canadian bear-cubs become the grizzly bears we see trying to tear each other’s heads off?

Can just picture those little guys with all that gear and not really knowing how to skate. Too cute and funny!

The older of my two nephews was one of the older members of the team, he and one of his friends the same age were guards.
They were called the Twin Towers.
