Ooph, the ol’ “paw in the eye” tap. Definitely my least favorite form of kitty communication.

I wasn’t going to do a question this week, but yesterday’s strip and comments inspired this one. Do your current/past cats (or other pets) like any people food and what is their favorite? Also what is the strangest food they have liked? Maxie seems to like most meats and the cheese off my pizza. She used to eat the cheese from my tacos soon too, but not so much anymore. I don’t know if she likes the taste of the pizza cheese more, or likes cooked cheese more. On the more unusual side is spaghetti sauce and cookies and other sweats. I used to have a cat that liked sunflower seeds and an oriental salad made with coleslaw/cabbage mix.

Yep, I’ve got one of those. She wants her attention when she wants it, and if I’m sleeping, too bad. I’ve already mentioned how I’ve actually been woken up by her purring as I’m petting her in my sleep. Heavy Sleeper + Persistent Cat = HOW Did I Manage To Do That?!

Maxie likes to do the pat thing too when I am trying to go to sleep. Now that she is older she sleeps through the night most of the time, but she still does it sometimes.

Oh yes! My kitty wakes up from wherever she was resting to find I have gone to bed. She comes in to my room, noisily, and jumps up on the bed to join me. Sometimes, she uses the night table as a stepping stone, and tries to knock my glasses and my cell phone off. Then she will step on my hair, and stick her wet nose in my face. When I protest, she will purr, then walk ON me, down the length of my body with her pointy little cat feet, and then “dig” until I move my legs into a position that creates both a cat-sized hole, and contorts me so that I cannot move without disturbing her. She plunks herself in and gets comfy. Somehow, I have become used to this routine and when I am away from home, I miss it.

Omg im totally there. My pepper is fine when I sleep thru hubbys’s alarm at 0530. But if I sleep past 0731 Pepper thinks I’m dead. He licks my face frantically. Nothing will stop him. So I never get to sleep late. In America the time changes forward one hour in march and back one hour in october. Does this bother pepper? Not at all. Maybe he listens to the news. He still thinks im dead after 0731am.

If we all go to bed, and The Lady Herself is awake, she sits downstairs and sets up a mournful cry of abandonment, in the hope that someone will come down and talk to her. This usually brings no response from her deaf and stony-hearted slaves, so she gives up and goes and jumps on my son’s bed.

Elvis, who did not nap too long is nonetheless not going to be left out of any attention giving by the Woman, not even sleepy attention giving.

There’s a simple solution for a cat that has napped too long and now wants attention in the middle of the night. Just put the cat outside the bedroom and shut the door. Problem solved! The cat can no longer tap you and everything is then calm and quiet and everyone can just sleep. Right?

An all too familiar occurrence for me. Dean will decide he wants some fussing, hop on the bed and purr loudly until I pet him. Upon realising Dean is getting attention, Sammy will appear and head butt and/or stand on delicate spots (usually my bladder) until he also is given attention – at which point he will then pick a fight with Dean and I have 30 lbs of cat wrestling on top of the bed. I didn’t need sleep anyway :)

My boy is a 14 pound, 11 year old bluepoint Siamese. I read something once that said that when a cat howls in the middle of the night or just long enough after you’ve gone to bed that you ALMOST were asleep…that the cat was ‘singing the song of his people’ and that amused and stuck with me. Well that’s what Mochi does. And a big male Siamese can do THE most forlorn, desolate, abandoned and offended ‘cause you went to bed without them – howls you could imagine! The ’songs of his people’ wakes me up every time.

After 10 days, my two newly adopted kitties, Blackjack and (pussy)Willow have finally come out from under the bed and made their first forays into the rest of the house. At top speed and at 2 AM, of course, with a pit stop at my bed to beg for food to refuel. It’s so nice to have cats in the house again!

We do a vigorous play session late at night in an effort to tire them out. It works better for Big Cat than for Little Cat, because he tends to hog the toys and the time. So she’ll start a wrestling match with him in the middle of the night when she gets bored, usually right on top of me as I’m trying to sleep.

I’ve never kept company with a cat that did this tapping thing. But one of my present pals will occasionally hop on the bed in the middle of the night and shove his head into mine with a mighty zeal, rubbing my face all over with his. Then he’ll break, circle back and do it again a few more times. He’s pretty charming about it.

See my avatar? Its a bunny plush made by ImpkinsPatsnozzle.

She&He sent it to me. Because my life is a bit crazy right now. If you would like to see some of the other work that she has done, she has a gallery here.

    info@heckydiddledolls.com

I don’t think that she’s into it for money, She is just showcasing her work there.

    I absolutely love him.

I guess that I’m going to have to get an Instagram account so i can get a good link for everyone to see him when i get him into the curio with the rest of the herd.

When I was younger, we lived in a small rented house and only had one cat, Ossip. He was secured in his own bedroom at night because he would do things like this. The bedroom had a metal pants rack on the back of the door, though, one of those things with swing out metal arms that would fold back against the door. Ossie would stand on his back legs and play this like a harp all night long and sometimes accompany it with mournful ballads.

Of my three current kitties, only one will eat any kind of people food, and that’s bits of crispy bacon. My darling Buddy who lived to be 21 (Maine Coon) loved vanilla ice cream to distraction…our distraction that is. If we were eating it he’d find a way to get up in our lap or over our shoulders on a chair and when the spoon went from the cup to our mouths, his paw come along, hook it and would waylay it to his tongue :)

I feel the woman’s pain. I sleep most of the night with one kitty by my feet and one on my diaphragm/hip area. If I roll over, hip-hugger just moves right along with me and plunks right back down. On the plus side all the kitty body heat is nice on my bursitis :)

Good morning and a happy Caturday, orbsters and orbabies!! Yum Yum does not tap our faces in the wee smalls. However, she does like me to sleep on my back so she can sleep on my knees, and then stomp on our bladders between 6 and 7AM. If that doesn’t get us up, she positions herself between the two of us and SCREAMS!! That is guaranteed to get our attention.

There is no such thing as a cat that naps too long. As soon as I sit down in the recliner or lay down in bed, I am covered in kitties that are somehow asleep before there little paws touch me. If I dare move one of them the offense is unforgivable. Nope cats can and will sleep when their servant is sleeping in this house.

Georgia posted this serious warning on BCN Facebook for all cat lovers at Easter, “Lilies Kill Cats! Easter is on Sunday, please remember to keep lilies out of reach of your kitties. Even just licking the pollen off their fur can kill them. And something as simple as drinking the water from the vase, can kill them. Lilies and cats don’t mix. Keep kitty safe and keep lilies out of the house.”

When Foxy was a kitten she would go next to the wall by my head and try to dig a hole to China through the floor. If I didn’t respond, she would bite my hair. Nowadays she paws the quilt, kneads and digs at the mattress underneath me. By the way they are called Maine Coon cats because they are approximately the size of the state of Maine. She still chomps me now and then, “Well, I got my good morning bite!” Jasper just jumps up on me and purrs in my ear accompanied by headbutts, marking, extreme kneading and nursing.

When I was a kid, my cat Baby loved cole slaw. Years ago, Fancy – my husband’s and my first kitty – loved sweet and sour pork with pineapple and onions. (I know onions are bad for cats, but they certainly didn’t bother her!) Now, we’re vegetarians, so our cats Finn & Zoey don’t get much people food to share but they both enjoy a splash of half and half in the mornings when we have our coffee.
