If you don’t like cats, don’t read this comic. Ludwig is their other child. And, you can always shut the bedroom door, from the start, then your cats grow up sleeping everywhere except on the bed with you. Tho’ we never did that either…
“I can’t move. I’ve got this cat on me.” My husband uses that comment when he’s hogging the bed and when he’s sitting in his chair at night. Cat’s rule. Of course, I don’t anyone touching her if she’s sitting next to me while I knit.
I’ve had cats and I’ve had dogs but would never let them on any of our furniture. You start them out that way and they learn. At least the dogs did. As for the cats, closing the door to the bedroom is the best suggestion.
We’ve had 4 cats in the past (adopted a litter to prevent any euthanasias). One morning I carefully extracted myself from the bed, took a picture of the bed with 4 cats and 1 wife and posted it with this question: “I was in the bed. No cat or wife has moved. Where was I?”
Our 20 lb. grey tabby makes most decisions of who sleeps where in the bed. In fact he meows at us when he is ready for bed. Cat time and human time operate differently.

I can’t sleep well with an animal in the bed, too light of a sleeper. I let the dog sleep with me when it is thundering but I’m always tired the next day.

We have five cats and there is almost always at least one with us when we sleep
My wife and I both feel we sleep better with a kitty cuddled up next to or on us, but it does sometimes take a bit of compromise

Cats are quantum magic users. The place they take is far superior than their mass in Newton space.
