It kind of makes me sad to see that she wasted the very special opportunity to practice drawing a live model. There is no better way to learn how to draw the human form and she spent the entire time drawing something she can do literally anywhere else (and already knows how to draw too).
Will this single, unsuccessful attempt to draw the human body be Luann’s only instance of sitting in on this class, or will she try again? I suppose this arc has already served its purpose, since it brought Jack (and Nil) back into the strip after a lengthy absence. I actually welcome that, since I’m tired of Bernice, the Ann Eiffel story went nowhere, and the Luann-mentors-Fay story is pure filler.
Do I notice an unintended or intended for that matter, resemblance of Jack to Rock Hudson? It just shows that, artistic license notwithstanding, things aren’t always what they seem…and forgive me if I avoid any Nil / Jim Nabors comparisons.
Subliminally, Luann drew what she saw. The Teddy bear represents Jack. The round disk with the sun on it represents her drawing tablet, which is blocking her view of all but the Teddy bear’s (Jack’s) head. Basically, what she was able to see of Jack.
So much for my prediction of a clever gag finish from G&K this week. This is a pretty disappointing finish to a week with a lot of potential. The strip has gone from a “gag a day” to a “tribulations of Luann and friends” feature. One can only hope this arc returns next week including Tara to liven things up.
Jack’s starting to come off as a little too full of himself. Maybe he’s being set up as the male counterpart to the Old Tiffany. We’ll know if he mentions his movie appearance in Pecs of Zye – The Sequel.
I believe Jack is now occupying the same “space” in Luann’s life, that Gunther once held. That is, deep down inside, she kinda, sorta Likes the Guy, but it afraid of showing it Because Jack isn’t exactly the “Handsome Prince” type guy that Luann has had programmed into her brain since a She was a small child. And that’s Too bad, because there are even more fun possibilities by pairing these two off as there would been pairing Gunther off with Tiffany.
Someone suggested that Jack should shave. I think he’s okay as he is. His “muscle bound Caveman” persona is Funny. It would have been interesting however, if Luann had known Jack most of her life as she does Gunther. Would she have been as “panic stricken” to have seen Jack in the “All Together,” then?
Maybe it’s time for Luann to try a relationship with a confident, strongly masculine persona like Jack, instead of wimps like Gunther, metrosexuals like Aaron, or unobtainables like Quill.
Why would Jack think it is a compliment that Luann was distracted? If she was paying attention in class, it would be to HIM. If she was distracted she was thinking of something besides HIM.
We’re at another intersection. Turn right into a new story line. Go straight and continue a humorous dating pattern. Turn left and have an encouraged Jack pursue Luann like a sexual predator. Don’t want to see that 3rd. option, just want to see things kept light.
I have not assumed Luann’s discomfort and distraction are due to an attraction to Jack. Also, if Nil wanted to either fix them up or play a mean prank on them, either way he betrays a lack of real depth. Trying to fix Luann up with a massive muscled moron is obnoxious, and so is wanting to prank a friend by deliberately putting her in an uncomfortable situation.
→Ultimately, I don’t really know what’s going on with Luann or with Nil. Only Jack is easy to read-because there’s never much to read.
Late to the party this time. Wonder if this arc interrupts for another. Ah maleness, Luann confronted with MALE, who likes her. How will this be handled? Can’t wait to see. Jack is very vain, for good reason in terms of body, and male, although having Nil as a friend humanizes him, so, where will this go. Oh what a tangled web you weave (Evanses)!!
Tangled but disappointing; Nil saw Luann’s abilities and went out of his way to have her come into the class (to learn more skills) and she has squandered the opportunity; Luann has no focus; she’s just controlled by her hang-ups, assorted phobias and distractions. I guess I can only be annoyed with the Evans’ for creating this arc, i.e. for making a mockery out of Luann developing her skills as an artist. I guess they are reaching out to a certain audience.
Weird times- some boys and girls totally repulsed by beautiful and natural hair yet mutilation by ink is considered acceptable and/or attractive. (Ugh. Projectile vomiting…)
Luann seems a little nervous around a nude Jack. She had not been attracted to him emotionally and was trying to keep a distance since she knows he likes her. But the site of him now has awakened her in a different way… shall we say.

Well if Luann never masters drawing the figure, there’s always a career in comic strips.
