Dogs are so good at looking mournfully at their empty dish, right after they’ve just finished eating. No wonder some of them end up as tubbies…

The art here is not just finishing the bowl of food and looking sadly at the dog food box, but managing to completely finish the food in the bowl so there is no doubt that food was never there in the first place.

My dog has done that to me and my wife a million times. That 5 pound Yorkie will eat until she throws up and is quite content to try again afterward.

And that, folks, is why Puddles is portly. Remember, pet obesity is a real problem – almost 53 percent of dogs and 58 percent of cats (in America) are overweight. (Source: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/more-than-half-of-u-s-pets-are-overweight-or-obese-survey-finds/)

This message has been brought to you by someone with way too much time on their hands.

This reminds long-time readers that on Sundays in summer Luann would wear tight shorts and indulge her notorious taste for very skimpy tops. She wasn’t always as prim as she seems to be now and was well aware of her looks – see for example https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2011/6/5. The other girls also tended to wear a bit less in the sunshine. Tiff, of course, wore very little at any time. Now only Ann dresses provocatively. Will Luann finally remember how very pretty she is? Will Tiff realize that a girl can still be sexy with a more cuddly figure? Will Tara come to the rescue of this currently staid and ever so respectable strip?

Tune in next week when they find out Puddles has diabetes and has to have insulin shots every day because he became obese from being constantly overfed due to this family not having it figured out, after many years, who should be feeding the dog.

I got a job in a foreign country when I was young, and left my cat with my brother, who had 3 roommates.

One would get up in the morning and feed the cat, who ate it. Repeat 3 times, and twice a day. By the time I found out that my brother and his roommates weren’t smart enough to figure out that they were feeding poor Jason enough for FOUR CATS, he died of complications of obesity.

Not a funny strip today, really.

I hate it when a comment I took the time to write the night before disappears. Ah well.. Puddles actually reminds me that I might finally get a little dog at my advanced age, they are so loyal, and non-questioning, just feed them and let them be part of your personal pack. On another point, my hometown Sunday paper, the Chicago Sun-Times, posted the Brad and Toni in bed Sunday toon today, not the one I see digitally above. Did anyone else have this happen in your town Sunday Funnies? How many of us even read, or are able to read the Sunday funnies as part of their print reading on the weekend (and dribbling a little during the week for articles we did not have time to read)? Am I the only compulsive on this?

@LUANN1212: I had to stop getting a newspaper, here in Central Florida, after my eyes got bad due to macular degeneration. The paper uses such a small typeface that I have to use a magnifying glass, and that doesn’t always do it. But this is the first time I had seen the Luann comic in print. So I’ll just stick with the internet for comics and news for now…
