OMG! Do dogs really do that? Every dog I’ve ever had (I have two now) does the butt scoot on carpet! I may have seen one of them go back and sniff it but I’ve never seen any of them taste it. On the other hand, I have had puppies eat poop, so anything’s possible.

I’ve had many dogs butt scoot but never witness that. Now the cat box on the other hand….

I had a German Shepherd dog that ate his own excrement.

They say when a dog eats its own poop it’s because you’re feeding it indigestible food. Commercial food contains a lot of grains and corn, which passes through a dog much like it passes through us. Right through. The difference is with dog’s it’s usually ground up so we don’t see that their poop is full of corn. In other words, dogs eat their own poop because it’ still food.

If it cleans the carpet, why complain?

Dogs don´t need to soil the carpet first, they are very capable of licking themselves directly.

Dogs are carnivores feeding them grains are cheating them of food and maybe upsetting them. Dogs are not human, never forget that.

@UP2TRIXX: My dog was fed meat plus cereal….. his brother did the same thing.
