I get that the artist is trying to contemporize Nancy, but I wonder if we will ever see a script again in our lifetime that does not involve new technologies or electronics.
I dunno; Nancy and cellphones seems like worlds apart. Still, if she lives in modern times, she’s no longer be considered chubby. I wonder if this strip would do better if they lived in an earlier time, like Red & Rover?
The real question is “Who does Nancy call?” She only ever spends time with Sluggo. Is she awaiting his latest text? Does HE have a cell phone? Does he have a side gig where he traffics in stolen goods? Is that why he’s so tired? And why IS Nancy so co-dependent at such a young age? Is Aunt Fritzi REALLY an A.I. App who only communicates through Nancy’s phone? Questions..
Wow… Nancy has the cell phone addiction quite bad! :) She sadly is reminding me of many of my students…. and my youngest daughter….. and sometimes also my wife (though please do not tell her I said that… I will be in the doghouse for that comment :) ).
Excellent comic with a “point” that is almost philosophical to boot! I like the teacher as well. Hopefully she will make regular appearances.
Cell phones have been around since the early 1980’s. Widespread use of cellphones has been in existence for roughly the last 20 years. Smartphones have been ubiquitous for the last decade. This is not “new” technology—time has simply flown by fast for those who think so. Hope that means you were enjoying yourself!

Panel 4: no phones within two feet of my classroom.
Panel 5: Also no schemes involving comically long selfie sticks and binoculars or other magnifying devices.

Ground rules apply to two feet under the floorboards and two feet over the classroom using 273 helium balloons.

P.S.
You will never see my top button unbuttoned.
I’m not that kind of teacher and this is not that kind of comic strip.

Ah, yes. Nancy is playing The Schoolhouse Lawyer. Same thing I used to do. It didn’t work then, either.

As a teacher, I can tell you that cell phones were the bane of my classroom. Nothing else came close to causing distractions like the phones.
EOCostello almost 7 years ago
I’ll grant that this is a classic-type schoolteacher gag, and was pretty decent, but gee whiz, another phone joke?

In the spirit of saying something nice or saying nothing at all, I can honestly say that the new Nancy is certainly no worse than the old Nancy!

Would have been simpler to say “No phones on in classroom.”

That’s pretty late in the year to get a new teacher. Was the former pregnant or something?
