Well no wonder she is so upset. Look at that 40year old Cray tube monitor system. Seriously, they are using computers whose operating systems were obsolete before the turn of the century.
This gets funnier and funnier. THAT’S the life, Nancy says, about sitting in front of another machine and being mesmerized by another screen. Nothing about enjoying the great outdoors, or talking in person to friends, or dancing or just listening to music. Just more screen time…
…I do enjoy the model Jaime’s version, but commercially, NOT artistically, is it going to last very long? Syndicated strips make money by newspapers paying to run them – I’d think that amount of money reaching the syndicate from the paid memberships to GiComics would be pretty minimal. Gilchrist’s version was in well under 100 newspapers – 79, I think. Will some amount of those newspapers, probably tending more toward redder-more Trumpian areas of the country, just be annoyed by the " with-it "-nrss and.um, " post-modern irony " of Olivia’s version. If too many if those papers drop the strip – Well, are newspapers in " cool, hip " areas going to pick up the slack – by picking up the strip? But later newspapers are occupied with walking the plank blindfolded these days,, and " cool, hip, with-it " young people. Even slightly less hip, slightly older, ones – For’t Read Newspapers! Right? Well, we’re certainly TOLD that… So, might Olivia’s version be leading to the whole strip going out, in a blaze of glory? Seems so!
The reason she likes the one at home is because the one at school still operates on a 56K modem and is still dial-up. All the school money went to build the new 10 million dollar sports arena.
For Those of You who didn’t read this posting yesterday (I posted in the evening, the worst time of the day), here it is again, slightly updated
I’m still taking “baby steps” with this strip and the new creator. Aside from the way Fritzi’s drawn, everything else is okay.
There’s still the sight gags that Guy used to when he was calling the shots. Also, I must remind myself that the last two Fritzis were done by men. The Bushmiller Fritzi was modeled after his wife and the Gilchrist Fritzi was modeled after his girlfriend. As for the version of aunt Fritzi drawn by Olivia Jaimes, she’s either modeling her after herself, her mom (perhaps), her aunt, (if she has one) her best friend, or her cousin. Remember, I’m just speculating which one.
A Little Fan Fiction: If me and my cousin was doing this strip, Fritzi would be modeled after two cartoon females: Tinkerbell from Peter Pan or Big Red, the red headed bombshell created by the late Tex Avery.
Brilliant! Today’s effort, is for me, the best one yet (of many great panels) by Olivia! I think the point she makes with these few simple panels is quite profound! Too many of us are like Nancy in this way…. many of us may be spending far too much of our lives interacting with screens and losing out on a lot of the other aspects of life.
Nancy is bored with doing work at school via the computer (or likely any other school work it seems lately)… but her “dream” is to go home and meander around on her own computer. Her thoughts across these few panels highlights how (for better or worse) technology is such a force in our lives today that it is getting harder and harder to discern if we are “living” our lives more successfully with electronics or if we are becoming more and more “controlled” and “conditioned/programmed” by our electronics.
Did not take long for me to drop the new ‘Nancy’ off my favorites list, and revisiting it now and then still does not change my mind. I have been following daily comics since the mid-1950’s and this ‘Nancy’ is the most boring ever!

The Gilchristians are really going to freak out once they notice that Nancy is apparently now left-handed.

Substitute “history book” for “obsolete school computer”, “comic book” for “laptop”, improve the art a bit and ya got a classic Nancy strip! ;-)

I wonder is a comic artist has others submit drawings and jokes before deciding on who to pass the torch to???

Today’s Classic Nancy features a Juke Box — contemporary technology of its day. So computers and cellphones are not out of place in today’s Nancy.
