a day late, but… i really love aunt fritzi’s new design!! she looks so much more like a person and so much less…………. like some dude’s really aggressive fantasy now
Perhaps the only drawback I see with this version of aunt Fritzi is that she’s slightly flat-chested. The Bushmiller and Gilchrist versions of her were well-figured.
OK, on Fritzi 3.0: Still waiting for her to get some lines, but so far, so good. Seems like a modern update of Bushmiller’s original character who (toward the end of his run) became merely a disciplinarian whose head popped out of panel corners. Don’t forget the comic strip originally was about her, with Nancy coming later. As for the Drooling Fritzi 2.0 Fan Brigade, I hope you managed to save a copy of her in the Wonder Woman outfit, ‘cause I don’t think it’s coming back…
Welcome, Aunt Fritz! Glad to have you with us. Maybe readers will treat you niece more kindly now that her guardian is on the scene. At least, I can hope….
Hello, 1932? Did you lose a comic strip? I think we found it here in 2018.Aside from the bland drawings, Nancy has seemed to change from a sweet, albeit rambunctious little girl into a mean spirited troublemaker. She always seems to have a scowl on her face.
Secondly, to those of you who think Guy drew Fritzi too “intensely,” I will guarantee you that it doesn’t matter how the cartoonist draws her. I also follow “Arlo and Janis,” and I am amazed at all the strange people who have lustful thoughts for a much-less-detailed Janis.
I have been a long time fan of the Nancy comic strip. I am 61 years old so do remember some of the Bushmiller’s originals and of course the daily classics, but mostly the Gilchrist era. Love them both. This artist has her own style that is very different. What I do like is that the characters are more realistic, especially Fritzi. Past versions of her were almost Barbie-doll like, even Bushmiller’s, but this new artist is drawing her to look like a “real” woman. Yes, it is very different from past versions, almost a totally new comic strip, but I still like Nancy. ☺
I really don’t like this version, but have been reading it for so many years that It is hard to think about dropping it! Besides I think that the snowflakes out there like it a lot. A lot of people liked the “NASH” automobile too, but now it is gone!
Sorry. A “natural engineer” would have put the megaphones the other way around so they concentrated the sound leaking through the doorway crack. The way they’re done here won’t help at all.
Sheesh! The whole point of this ‘toon was that Nancy, listening in to the parent-teacher conference, engaged in some ’engineering’ so she could hear the conversation while at the same time bemoaning the idea that a recommendation was being offered to encourage her in a tech field that ‘sounds like something she would hate.’ And the extra bonus (speaking as an oldster) is that a lot of people in the day would have been recommending that Nancy sign up for a club designed around the idea that female students had no ability to do ‘tech’. Maybe I like this new version of ‘Nancy’…
The robotics club could include: Lio, Skip from “Bleeker, the Rechargeable Dog”, and the old man from “The Last Mechanical Monster” (as a guest speaker).

Yesterday’s first panel, and today’s first and second panel, are literally identical, except for the drawing of the speech bulbs.

Yes, I saw that too. Another point for Gilchrist. Who didn’t do panel copying.

She might prefer the A/V club.

Nancy will never like robotics. “It’s her mission, should she accept to take it.”

Fritzi has been listening for so long that she turned in to a statue.

Teacher’s assessment may be a bit premature, as all of Nancy’s listening devices are backward. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_trumpet

Aunt Fritz’s first appearance aside, I liked the gag.

This is awesome and why I love comics.

I think the 2nd appearance is just a Xerox of the first, so Vic may be right.

I also find it interesting that the new Nancy is getting so many comments from lovers and haters alike. If OJ was looking for attention, she got it.
