Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Tracy seems almost pleased by this news, but itâs not much of an accomplishment. We should finish wrapping things up tomorrow and after that I hope we can read a real Dick Tracy story with real Dick Tracy rogues. Mike promised lots of action for the summer, if I remember right.
Iâm actually not disappointed, just relieved that I wonât have to hear that diabolical, world renowned criminal mastermind Topper explain his impressive scheme ONE MORE TIME!
I havenât seen a working teletype machine since the â80s. They were made more or less obsolete by fax machines, and now faxes are antique technology. I donât doubt some are still in use here and there, but itâs kind of quaint to see one at a department with wrist wizards and air cars.
âWhereâd you get the thing about the ice bullet?â âDick Tracyâ ââDick Tracyâ?!â âYeah: he was a very underrated detectiveâ â Harold ^Joe Turner, Three Days of the Condor (1975)
By the way, COSMO TOPPER is really a character from Movie and TV Series. Sophisticated but stuffy Cosmo Topper (Carroll) is the vice president of City Bank, married to sweet (but rather clueless) Henrietta (Lee Patrick). They live in a Los Angeles house they bought from the estate of a young couple, George and Marion Kerby (real life husband and wife Robert Sterling and Anne Jeffreys), who died after being swept away by an avalanche. A St. Bernard, Neil, who attempted to rescue them also died with them. Topper discovers his new home is haunted by the former occupants as well as Neil. Strangely, he is the only one able to see or hear them. Neil, the St. Bernard, loves martinis and a running gag is the invisible dog lapping up the drink.
The Kerbys try to bring some excitement and joy into the life of stodgy and conservative Topper. The ghosts cause strange (but humorous) events to happen, which an embarrassed Cosmo has to try to explain to others baffledâand even frightenedâby them.
Was The Green Hornet actually sighted in Central City, or was it The Black Beauty? We could see Britt Reid tomorrow saying goodbye to Tracy and heading back to his home turf.
So remind me if Iâm wrong: Tracy and Sam were knocked out cold. GH and Kato could have easily killed them, but instead called help for them on one of the wrist radios. (Of course, Dick and Sam donât know that, except who else was there to make the call?) And yet, Tracy drove the Hornet right out of town. Conclusion: Sam had to have been been poking fun at Tracy, knowing that the Hornet and his associates had the upper hand on MCU all along.
Not a very satisfying ending for Tracy, who knows Sam and Lizz are just trying to soothe his feelings, after he was humiliated by the Green Hornet, who is now reportedly back on his own Central City turf. Old Squinty-eyesâ painful smirk in panel 3 makes it clear he knows he is being buttered up more than ultra-expensive cinema popcornâŚ.
Maybe the (next) day will get better (for Tracy)âŚ.

Good morningâ˘, false victory takers !
Last panel: Dick has that Yuh, sure look. He knows Sam is just trying to put a smile on a dill pickle of an outcome.

Look how smug DT looks, when it was actually the Green Hornet who did all the heavy lifting.

Iâll be honest with you all, reading this arc from beginning to now, it had the feel of an episode from the television show.

All of the recent stories have seemed more like episodes rather than fleshed out stories.
