That’s one of the silliest things about online ads! We buy something and for the next couple of months, the ads will be for the same product or equivalent other brands! Search AI is dumb!
I find all ads to be very intrusive/distracting and also use Adblocker Plus. I’m perfectly capable of knowing my own financial situation and what I need or want at any given time and ads don’t have that capability! I think ads (like trolls) rely on gullibility.
I disagree. Just because I bought a new pair of glasses, or a big screen tv doesn’t mean I DON’T WANT ANOTHER ONE TOMORROW. Why does the same place I just purchased from keep tossing ads at me for the same thing?
Myself, I buy as little as possible online. I want to keep my tax money here in town and keep people employed and paying taxes here.
I am concerned, though, that I might have to change that practice once I retire. I might be forced to look online for cheaper prices.
On the other hand, I am already a dedicated nonconsumer. I usually buy only what I need and rarely buy luxuries or frivolities. So, my retirement money might be enough that I can continue to shop locally.
Just like ads on tv, you pay for a lot of the value(?) you want to receive by allowing the people who want to advertise their product to have your minimal attention for as long as they are willing to pay for it. Do I mind that they know what I was researching? Not really, they might have some suggestions that will be valuable to me. And, I can totally ignore them if they are just off to the side of the page. Advertisers have to advertise. We actually get some value out of being made aware of products that might be useful to us, and I feel a bit of security out of the fact that at least they don’t know so much about me that they know I bought that last week. Advertisers can buy TV time, call you on the phone, or buy ads on the internet. I HATE popups that actually interfere with my viewing, but overall, side ads on the internet are directed at products I might actually want, don’t require me to figure out where I lost my phone and then have already hung up, don’t make me fast forward through them and probably are the most effective bang for the buck for the advertiser.
Lots of programs out there to block ads, stop websites from tracking you wherever you go on the internet, etc. Please do your research to protect your privacy.
UBlock Origin and NoScript – two must have add-ons with any browser and if your browser doesn’t support them then change browsers now. These days I suggest Palemoon, but pick what works for you. Control your own viewing experience.

I Google things just to see what they look like.
I also post pictures here, send people pictures, and use images for all sorts of things unrelated to shopping….
so of course I get endless ads for things I only wanted a quick look at, and have no interest in.
But a lot of that is foiled by my ad blocker.
(I use Adblocker Plus on Firefox.)
If GoComics ads are a problem, use one!
But I don’t really need it on this site…..
I’ve found it really worth the $1.65 or so a month… well, 19.95 a year… to subscribe. Works out to 6 cents a day.
NO ADS EVER…. plus the subscription gives me a much more enjoyable (to me) page set-up.
In fact, I used to get only GoComics’ own “ads” ….
unobtrusive banners for new comics and small ads for Andrews McMeel books from cartoonists here….
I think it might be Adblocker Plus that blanks those out too.
No, I don’t work for GoComics and they don’t know I’m suggesting it…. I’m only saying it cos it works for me.
Your mileage may vary; you don’t need to tell me…
I’m just saying for twenty bucks for a whole year you might want to try it.

Ten years ago the newspaper was 90% ads. We quit. So did everybody else. Lately I have found the newspaper is back to 20% ads.
