Always pushing the envelope. Some children are begging to have a red backside. (Fortunately, my own parents didn’t believe in spanking. Otherwise, I would not have been able to sit down for most of my childhood and especially my adolescence.)
So is this a way for Olivia to tell all of us…. that this is the new game in town or what? Nice way to do it. Nancy, however, is being a bit petulant, isn’t she. Even though she is technically correct. :)
As far as Aunt Fritzi’s facial expressions today? While the first panel is great… for me the last two are just a tad “creepy”. It is my sincere hope that Aunt Fritzi never has to feel those emotions again that lead to those facial expressions. :)
I’ve been reading Nancy for about 50 years (that’s when I learned to read I was looking at the pictures before that), so I reckon I’ll keep reading Nancy for a few more. However, with all due respect to Ms Jaimes, I’m not a big fan of her style of humor so far. I liked the direction that Guy took it, but am glad she didn’t try to continue it, that wouldn’t have been fair to either one. Every cartoonist has their own style, and needs to build on that. For those that keep comparing her style to Bushmiller, I ain’t seeing it folks. Maybe I’ll get used to it, but so far, I’m not impressed.
Maybe it’s because I have a 11 year old daughter today, but I find OJ’s take on Nancy significantly more relatable than the little girl from a few years ago who would cry every time a country music hall of famer passed away. No offense to Guy, his stuff was fine… but almost every thing this newer Nancy does reminds me of my kid. Today’s is just another pretty good example of an exaggerated version of a conversation I have actually had with my girl, so it made me belly laugh. Maybe there are few people in here who’s kids wrote country songs and (was it “hippy dippy”) poems under trees, but mine uses an iPad, a laptop, and has a smart-alecky personality. I’m still thinking OJ is more relatable, and therefore an improvement.
Working for a school and being around kids all day this one made me laugh a lot! So true to life to how talking with a kid can be, and the frustration of being corrected on technicalities like they love to do. lmao
To my frenemies, I like what Jaimes is doing. Except for things like what she did here. Jaimes made Fritzi ditzy, she’s very disconnected from Nancy in an almost pathological way, and Fritzi’s the one paying the bills. You know, to make Nancy smart at the expense of Fritzi is, uh-uh.

“Go stick your head in your laptop.”
And thus Aunt Fritzi, too, gets stuck in comic techno-land.

New year, new Fritzi indeed! I love the changes in expression, holding the other elements static.

Knocked this one outa the park, Olivia ! :-)

Nancy’s head is on a pike, and Aunt Fritzi is a ventriloquist. Thus the expressionless progression.

“New Year”? We’re in the month of June now. It’s now just “year”.

…Well, I have to honestly say I’ve never seen expressions like that on Fritzi before…

Maybe she can get that lazy husband to help, if she can find him.

Nancy has turned into an entitled, selfish brat. It’s no longer cute or funny. I gave it a while, but now it’s time to go. Bye bye.

The Fritzi I know would’ve brought out and whacked Nancy’s ass with a hairbrush! What a little smart-ass!

I like the new look of Fritzi. Her hair does reminder me of Lucille Ball’s do in “I Love Lucy”, only black. A bit of a throw-back to the 1950’s.

The classic Nancy was precocious for sure — that’s why it was funny. She was never a smart-alec. That’s not funny at all.
HarryCK over 6 years ago
I like a little “smartass”, for variety. I don’t think she’ll be like that all the time which can only serve to dilute the impact.

If people can’t handle children on the same level, what was said and respond in kind I would question their ability to be parents and not tormentors.
