Okay who can decipher what she is gurbling in panel 3? She is talking about going to the park in panel 1, which must be about what she does with Dad but I can’t figure out what she is saying in the third panel which assures it is most important. Any takers.
Instead of “His” and “Hers” towels, Mr. and Mrs. DeGroot have a “Greg” and “6-20” set. It often feels like an extra punch line where Greg chooses to put the date, kind of like the frequent inside jokes hidden in the old Looney Tunes cartoons.
Part the bangs, and Shannon’s haircut is strikingly similar to Tiffany’s. Other parallels: Neither have mothers; both have distracted and emotionally unavailable fathers (Jonah more available than Tom). Perhaps Toni can role model confident, unpretentious womanhood enough to guide Shannon toward a different self-image than Tiffany.
@AND YOUR POINT WOULD BE: Actually, I think Toni feels insecure herself. It’s very easy for Jonah to manipulate her into feeling guilty if she isn’t as ‘supportive’ of him as he claims he needs her to be. And she also backs down whenever Shannon gets upset about most things (the exception being the time that Toni did go to her scheduled meeting with the wedding planner, even though Jonah had promised Shannon that Toni was going to take her swimming.) So I’m thinking Nancy may be a better role model for Shannon…
I can only make out the last line in the last panel. It said if we want too .Not sure what the top half is saying. Maybe then after the park we can something if we want to? I don’t know.. should use it a secret code for spys..
Once again we find Shannon’s affinity to hang with Uncle Bwad. At least it’s GnK’s affinity to throw the two together. As I opined yesterday, the uncle/niece milieu has a much richer comedic flavor that dad/step-daughter. That’s one reason why I don’t think adoption is in the offing.
Besides, look how well it worked for Ernie Bushmiller. :o)
In the Spanish panels she says, “Daddy is able to, also.” Meaning she is still worshiping her birth father and that is why Brad has that squinty look in his eyes.
TJ/Toni/Brad must have gone for a 70’s themed bathroom…. goldenrod walls, avocado towels, and a purple counter-top. They must be going for “retro chic”…. or maybe Sheriff is just using “Luann” today to sample said options because his wife is wanting him to redo one of their bathrooms “retro chic”? :)
Shannon, little lovable Shannon belongs in the Future Harpies of America coven. I have to think that the only reason she makes occasional stops has to do with Toni and Brad’s future regarding kids.
@DNTME: Actually, if a second person can’t understand what the first person is saying, it IS the first person’s problem. Because, usually, when people are talking, it’s because they want someone else to understand what they are saying. Otherwise, why bother?
It can takes a few episodes to see the focus of the arc. I’m guessing Brad might be probing Shannon to see what her life with Jonah is like, e.g. “…sometimes we go the park so I can play..”. But this may be a bit premature.
I’m actually fine with switching to an arc that isn’t quite so intense. With what’s going on in the world and our country today, I could use something a little more light.

Did TJ move out? There’s only two towels now. Originally, there was three, His, Hers, and His.

Is this going to eventually end with Brad and Toni raising Shannon and therefore deciding not to have one of their own?
