I’m old enough to remember wondering if I’d be drafted, and young enough that they were no longer drafting people when I turned 18. Then I went and joined the Navy on my own.
Although I have no firm memory of the incident, something happened at one camp and I ran away. My parents were called and came up. I only made it to the corner store a mile away before being caught. Can’t recall whether I stayed the rest of the week or was sent home. The really spooky thing is, years later I learned that another girl admired me (the smallest and shyest of the group) for having the courage to do it. Although I didn’t know it at the time, she wanted to run away, too, but was afraid of the consequences. Normally, that would have deterred me, so it must have been really bad.

Royal Guardsmen did “draft” Charlie Brown into the army years after Charles Schulz died.

Snoopy is living in a fantasy world. Charlie Brown should try it, especially on the way to camp.

My summer camp always had bugle calls, and the girls reciting their own sound-offs.

Never went to summer camp, though.

Charlie Brown pisses & moans about everything. Has he ever been happy about anything!?

I’m guessing you do it because your parents insist?

I hated summer camps, too. Looking back on it, I realize now that it was due to being tremendously insecure.

Summer camp, for boys or girls, were a way for parents to get a week or more kid-free. I used to love summer camp. Learned lots of cool stuff.

I never went to Summer Camp, but I did get drafted. Received “THE” letter just before Christmas ’68 and went in on my 21st birthday.

I visited Verdun in 2009 while on crew rest with my airlift buddies. It was something to remember.

I really like the confluence in today’s strip. Two different thought trains from two different time periods merging in the final frame.

Why is Snoopy going to camp? Is he going to fight s’mores?
