Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Well isnât this an unexpected cameo appearance! I so love doing that. But it is defeated if it is too obscure for the readers. Some do it just so some enterprising person will ferret it out. The art style for Michael fits the latter years of the strip For Better Or Worse or FBOW.
I like the reminder of how Flattop and maybe Angeltop met their doom. Though without a body for her I wonât be sure.
Itâs very cool that (apparently) Mike and Joe had Lynn herself draw Michael! It also seems as if theyâre telling us that Lynn is a fan of Dick Tracy.
This is harmless fun, but I hope it wonât come back to haunt Mike and Joe. If there really is still any kind of restriction on story length (does any one know if there is?) then I hope we wonât find ourselves with another of the infamous rushed endings. If that happens, then they just wasted a Sunday strip, where they had 5 large panels where they could have moved the story along.
Now letâs see Les Moore in the background at another table, stack of books at his side and trading dispirited punny putdowns with the handful of people waiting to buy one.
Hi Folks! Please welcome my dad. He is an 86 yo Vet and has followed Dick Tracy since he was a very young boy. I am teaching him to use this site and enjoy all of your comments as well as his daily Comic. Thanks to all!! Avatar coming soon.
For Better or for Worse is another of my favourite strips. This one will definitely be going into the âSaved Comic Stripsâ file. Thank you, Team Tracy.
So if the original strip was still running in real time, Michael would be about 37 now. Do you think Lynn was trying to draw Michael at that age? (Looks younger to me.)
Honeymoon is probably a bit young to be totally familiar with Michael Patterson, but I think she is subliminally aware. Michael and Juniorâs meeting at Juniorâs book signing is entirely apt. But I do wonder who else might be lurking in the crowd (isnât it nice to see a crowded bookstore? âJust like the Good Old Days); maybe someone not so benignâŚ.
BTW, if Juniorâs book were really available, Iâd pay a dollar for that! (At least.)

For better or worse it is no curse
When comic worlds collide
Few whine or fret, expressing regret
Make comments rude and snide.
Scene of the Crime both grim and sublime
Junior a skilled sketcher
His influences reveal themselves
Staton, Gould and Fletcher.
Patterson knows the way signings go
Has signed some books himself
McCarthy, Robinson, Coates and Sayles
Now sit upon his shelf.
Honey thinks he looks quite familiar
Has seen that face before
She met him in the funny pages
Real-time family lore.

Sawtooth might want to have a signed copy of the book. I was expecting him to be at the event today.

@PEQUOD:
Please note that my comment above is thoughtful and respectful, with no whining or fretting, and no snide or rude words whatsoever!

In Panel One (the âlogoâ panel), Tracy looks kindaâ gray. (I know heâs old, but not that old⌠you might want to check that.)

Back in the 1940âs-50âs you could sell garden seeds (from back page of comics) and win prizes! I chose the âDick Tracyâ camera!

And that is how you do a Sunday comic! From the Crimestoppers recap to the cameo appearance, superb!

Wait a sec, is Dick there? Yesterday he said heâd drop by, and that looks like him, center bottom.
And Michael asks for Juniorâs autograph? But not Dick?

Did Lynn Johnston draw Michael in the panels? Because itâs a really good copy of her style.

Ah, What a Strip!!!
Don Bagert Premium Member over 6 years ago
So Michael Patterson was a great choice to have meeting Junior because:
1. As previously mentioned, Michael is a published author (I wonder if the film that was optioned from one of his books got made);
2. Michael and Junior both started in their respective strips as children;
3. They are now both married and each have two children;
4. They are both about the same age (see my post above); and
5. Their respective strips are both highly-regarded and award-winning!

âIâve followed your fatherâs career for yearsâŚhis strip was just below our familyâs in the local paper.â LOL

The bookâs cover is yellow â and thatâs for real because itâs a Sunday strip, right?

I like the change of pace here, it is good to take a break once in a while.

Well, todayâs strip sure brought the narrative momentum to a screeching halt.
