    Drat.

The “Special Guest” is not revealed. Who ever it is, the “Guest” may be pivotal as it appears the person(?) is being saved for a possible Saturday “Cliff Hanger” surprise.

Or We may not meet the “Guest” at all. Just follow Tiffany around as she drops in on different locations. And if THAT’S the Case, where would be the next Stop?

    1) MRS Fogarty’s Office?

    2) A visit with Crystal?

    3) A stop at Gunther’s old homestead to reenlist his aid as a “study Buddy,” only to find the house abandoned and a “For Sale” sign out front?

    4) The Fuse to see (GAG) Le$, who promptly invites Her to see HIM at the Gulag after He gets RID of Gunther?

Nah. Who am I kiddin’? One Guest Appearance from Jack and his Wonder Dog, coming right up!

By the way, does Tiffany even KNOW that the Lads are in the Gulag yet and WHERE it is?

    When Luann showed up yesterday…

Remember Luann? There’s a comic strip called Luann… (with apologies to Arlo Guthrie)

…I thought this arc was going to be over.

Now, I like the newer, wider body Tiffany, don’t get me wrong.

But it sure seems as if the purpose of this week was to make fat Tiff every bit as obnoxious as the old skinny Tiff!

Sorry, but as if kids would say “you got kinda BIG”. Either they wouldn’t notice, or they’d put it bluntly: “HEY, HOW COME YOU’RE FAT NOW?”

    Kids be that way.

@Sheriff: I am a longtime reader of mystery series (and keep trying to get a short story published, no luck). There are a bunch of series I follow, and some that I drop like hot potatoes. The ones I can’t continue with never have their characters learn from past mistakes, grow or change. One character is based on the author (who is a physical anthropologist and works as a coroner.) The character ALWAYS ends up walking into the trap set by the murderer, and is ALWAYS rescued by some cop. Characters, like people, need to evolve…

Ahem, Steve, you’re big yourself. That’s why Tiffany is telling you to love yourself. Go see yourself in the mirror, among a sea of thinner classmates. Yes, there are fat people of all ages, including your age group. That’s ok, Steve. Some fat children grow up to be swans.

Um.. Greg? Tiffany is hardly “plus size” or “fat”. She just looks healthy to me. Please, please, please.. stop with the body shaming. Not everyone who is a size 2 is healthy or normal. Women don’t need to be sticks to be attractive.

I have to disagree with all the tiffany hate today. She appears to be happier, she’s socially engaged, she’s encouraging children to be more accepting. If someone came up to you and said they want to be like you would you really discourage them?

As I relook at the strip this morning, I think Greg is trying to tell us something about his characters in the middle panel; overtly or covertly.

Don’t try to be someone else. Greg says to his characters.

Gunther, Tiffany and Les went through a long spell of arcs that garnered a lot of fan comments about possible “changing” and “growing.” To a lesser extent, Luann.

Then came the emotional “crash and burn.” The wedding in Las Vegas absolutely fizzled. Died. Kaput. Then came the furniture sale? The most interesting thing there was the Pitt School girl. We haven’t seen that shirt since abound the money raise for D.C. trip in 2009. Maybe she’s Luann special guest.

Then LuAnn’s romantic interest arcs with Jack ended where? At a dog park ??? In light of panel two, Jack’s next appearance will be as his old boisterous, semi-clumsy self. At least puddles changed. He was more energetic in that arc since I don’t know when.

I propose that the character changes brought the GnK team to a place they didn’t want to be or couldn’t see the way forward for these “new” characters. Hence, revert to norm.

Tomorrow’s strip should tell a lot – one way or the other…

You know I simply cannot believe the snarky comments about a more fuller figured TIffany, most of them critical in one sense or another. What Tiffany is doing is saying a WONDERFUL message to the children, and by definition generally, by affirming herself, and telling the kids to not let OTHER’s define or affirm them, they need to affirm their own selves. This is WONDERFUL!!! Tiffany is still basically the same girl, one which most of us love actually, I know I do, and it took awhile, because I thought she was the original mean girl, along with Crystal (although Crystal is too fine, and too smart to hate for too long, bring her back more Greg, along with her nutty friend or boyfriend Knute) but she has learned to NOT be insecure, or let her father’s parental deficit in affection or involvement define her. I think this is WONDERFUL, (did I say that enough),and is a sign of progress. I mean of course there will be drama/comedy, how else do you run a going on 40 year toon that deals with a small universe? But Tiffany is a role model, who would have thunk it!!

Yeah, I have to agree with RedOrangeYellowGreenBlue, etc., I think this ‘toon is a gentle dig at the self-affirmation movement (such as it is), since many words about ’accept our differences’ are not followed by deeds. Considering the increased incivility and lack of tolerance at large in the US today, though, Tiffany’s return to self-absorption is a very mild flaw. I had hoped that she would turn in a direction not of the ‘love yourself as you are’ verbalization and instead in a direction of deciding on a genuine future. If she is only in an academic college to please a father who won’t be pleased, and she really wants to launch a career in modeling, she should not only take those pix and look for an agent, but should also enroll in a business course that would teach her how to manage her own earnings (or give her skills to use as a ‘day job’ managing someone else’s earnings, if her modeling career doesn’t take off.) She should only stick with the academics if that is what she really wants. Too many kids come out of college these days and can’t find a job.

And I continue to hope that the high school rivalry between Tiffany and Luann is over. But I guess that’s too much to hope for, since it seems to please the Luannhaters so much…

Speaking of surprise guests (we were speaking of surprise guests, right?). TJ has been known to take a step or two backwards in age for dating purposes. Remember that he took Luann to a prom. Being Brad’s classmate I assume he’s at least one, maybe two, years older that Luann and Tiffany. But some folks have expressed the idea that TJ may still have orientation difficulties relationship wise.

Wouldn’t that have huge potential for an arc!?!? A budding TJ/Tiffany relationship where the reader is always in the dark PLUS TJ’s ability to outmaneuver Tiff’ arch-foe, Ann Eyefull!!!

Come on Greg! Give it a shot. :o)
