I’m haitian to admit it, but jimakin called it yesterday! Dick Tracy solving the murder of “Dick Tracy” in an Agatha Christie-style whodunit where the suspects are all famous DT “rogues”? Plus an homage to the old UPA cartoons!? That’s gold, I tell ya!
Of course this means that the butler (cosplaying as Mr. Magoo) did it…
Well since Eugene Roche died in 2004, he just might be the victim. I noticed a reference to the Rogues Gallery list of suspects. So far it’s a gallery of one. Fauxflatty. Who else will show up?
And now I realise that if Eugene Roche was cosplaying as Dick Tracy, when he phoned on Sunday about “trying it on,” Tracy had sent him an old coat and/or hat.
Yesterday I was a little critical about cosplaying, then last nite I read in the New Yorker about how New York art sophisticates showed up at a gallery featuring an Andy Warhol exhibition dressed up in soup cans & such to honor him. Maybe I am a little out of touch. So, I’ll walk the critique of cosplaying back, & apologize if anyone took offense. However, I do agree with several comments I’ve seen, that Mike is relying on cosplaying as a plot device a little too much in his stories.
In the immortal words of Cul de Sac’s Uh-oh Baby, uh-oh! We’ve got our crime, it seems, if Eugene is really dead fish dead. The real Dick Tracy dashes in to investigate the faux Tracy, apparently deceased. Let the investigation-phase begin!
With all the “All in the Family” references, I decided to google “Dick Tracy Bunker” to see what popped up. Turns out there is a golf course in Wheaton Illinois with a bunker designed intentionally in the shape of Dick Tracy’s head. Who knew? Try it.

Good morning™, token good guys!
This Dick Tracy pose also looks like something from the UPA cartoon.

OK, “Flattop” is not Eugene Roche. Roche is the murder victim.

Good morning™, dead Dicks !
I’m sure the fake Tracy will get up and they’ll all have a laugh at the real Tracy’s expense.

This is resembling the “Midnight Mirror” story where a couple of the actors were killed by the Brow’s son…
The “Flattop” character ( aka “The Chalice” ) played a prominent part.
And the real Dick Tracy should throw the Cosplayers for a loop… including the murderer !

Darn! If the cosplay Dick Tracy is the victim, that ends my theory that “Tracy” would be the murderer.

Looks more like “Fearless Fosdick” – is Eugene Roche going to be shown, looking like a Swiss cheese now?

Well, “Flattop” has an alibi…

I still think with the previous “All in the Family” reference, that we may see some other members of the Flattop family upstairs :)

Pretty sure Tracy never imagined in a million years that he’d be hearing those words while still awake and breathing.
