Hate to break it to you, Rat, but Facebook has yet to take over everything. Myself and a few others haven’t yet bothered to join. A I don’t plan to ever join.
I ‘joined’ FB a few years ago because I needed to reply to a post. Haven’t been on since, but I get a daily email telling me I have dozens of connections pending…. I just ignore and delete. I’m old fashioned, and appreciate privacy.
Hey, now. I share these strips daily in Pearls Before Swine group on Facebook. And Steph has a Facbook page of Pearls Before Swine where he shares some of his most favorite Pearls strips. AND he also has a Facebook account
So how might we verify that www.startpage.com (or any other random URL) “doesn’t spy on us”? As a programmer who has written the code behind a number of web sites, I’m sorta curious about how I could go about checking whether another site is doing things that I know how to do and I don’t want done to me. ;-)
I’m banned from FacePalmBook at the present because some snowflake got his feelings hurt just from a joke picture of Hitler looking for Donny “about this tall”. This cartoon is right on the money.
Huh. It’s a central tenet of Zuckerburg et al.‘s religion that there should be no privacy for anyone, anywhere, at any time, and it’s to the point where the entire internet reflects that. FB, Google and even Amazon try to track one’s use of and behavior on the internet EVEN IF one doesn’t have an open account. They believe they know everyone’s economic status, religion, sexual orientation, political beliefs, etc. What’s more, you have NO access to those files to change and correct, let alone eliminate, them.
.
On the Internet and out in the world in general, our privacy is crumbling. Some of it is unavoidable (e. g. license plate readers, driver’s license photos, surveillance cameras everywhere). It’s all pernicious, and I do my best to not make it easy for them. I do my internet searching with DuckDuckGo which says it does not track one and it works as well as Google. I won’t have a smart-phone or use E-Z Pass (location trackers, both), I use cash as much as possible and will not join “shopper’s clubs,” I avoid ALL social media, and outfits like Google, like the plague, likewise the “free” e-mail services which read your e-mail, I use cookie and digital fingerprinting blocking (Privacy Badger & Privacy Possum) and script blockers/managers (NoScript et al.) on my various web browsers, and I’m on the Internet via a paid, thank you, VPN (PIA or NordVPN) which masks my IP address and location and also very effectively blocks ads (which can be dangerous) as part of it’s service. And just try to get my SS# out of me or get me to sit still for an I. D. photo. Resist! (and I haven’t seen a targeted ad in ages…)
Where is Li’l Guard Duck and his BOFORS twin-40 mm ack-ack when you need him? There’s an enemy Up There! Of course, it was amusing not too long ago to see Markie Z lose someteen billion in a day when FB took a hit….

I foresee a day where Facebok tries to take over the world and is destroyed by the alpha and omega of the internet……. Amazon.

Eh, Steph is starting to get a little too current and political. I’d rather see puns.

I didn’t know you could say that word in the comics. Maybe the police officer should have said, “Where were you on the night of August turdy turd?”
