That’s the difference. My dad did all of those things as well as ride his bike way outside of town to a dump type place. My husband rode his bike all over town and skate boarded down major, hilly roads. Even I was allowed to climb trees, sometimes using a ladder to get a boost.
Granted, I can recall one kid who was hit by a car, one who was raped ( jump out of the bushes style), one who was bitten by a rattlesnake and died, a whole carload who wrecked a car when the driver had only been driving about a week, two who drowned, and probably more that I don’t remember. But, I can also remember the summer morning I woke up about 5:30 and rode my bike all over town before anyone else woke up. My mom didn’t call the cops when she noticed I wasn’t there, she wasn’t even worried about anything other than my missing breakfast. My granddaughter isn’t allowed to walk the 10 blocks home from school without one of the parents in the neighborhood walking with the 5-8 kids she walks with. Convicted felons have more freedom.
I guess I was a rebel cuz once my homework was done I wasn’t seen around the house till it was time to sleep. Same thing during summer with my chores. As soon as they were done for the day I was outta there. Either way I didn’t bother to say where I was going cuz I could take care of myself.
I played in the woods and by the lake and used wood and nails and hammers, etc. I guess Ben needs to go outside, too, and help these guys learn the ways of the wilds.

To think I almost lived in the river most of the summer.

Used to leave on the horse after breakfast and had to be home before dark…horses don’t have tail lights.

Next time remember, it’s easier to ask for forgiveness then permission.

No playing with rocks or climbing? I’m glad I grew up when kids could be kids.

It say it right here on the warranty card: “If you never take risks you’ll live forever…”
