That has actually happened where a demo crew destroys the wrong house due to misreading the address on their paperwork. Costs the companies involved a fortune
I never knew of a demolition team taking down the wrong house but I personally knew a contractor, that built a house on the wrong lot.
What was really sneaky was that the property owner said absolutely nothing until the construction was completed ! He got himself a beautiful, free , 3 bedroom home in Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona.
The builder never lived it down and ( naturally ) had to build another house on the correct piece of land.
County mistakenly spread 22 metric tonnes of roadbed gravel on my driveway. Told them I would pay for it, but their reply was the most polite refusal to take my money that I have ever experienced.

Totally non-PC but Amos and Andy did this routine on their radio show, a long, long, long time ago.

This comic really should have only been a 3 panel job. Panels # 1, 2, & 4 are just Sunday space fillers, and could easily be eliminated.

I think Shel Silvertein wrote a poem with a similar joke.

Unfortunately, you will occasionally read about just such a mishap actually occurring somewhere.
