OMC this strip brings back memories! When I was a little girl, I had a teddy bear whom my mom named “Stinky Bear” because I drooled all over the poor bear and of course he eventually smelled! Mom couldn’t stand it so she washed him and back in the 50’s, we didn’t have a dryer so he wound up being hung up by his ears on the clothesline. I sat all day by the window looking at Stinky Bear, waiting for him to dry!
Always a trying time when a favorite stuffed animal makes the journey through the washer and dryer. In a year or two, such journeys can be undertaken while the Boy f/k/a the Toddler is at school. But, for now, he is right there offering what comfort he can to Pengo through the ordeal, as Puck is offering comfort to the Boy. I am sure all will survive and be better for the experience, but for now . . . we wait, and endure.
Lupin – the horrified Anchor Cat, Elvis – the earnest reporter cat with the facts and Puck the concerned reporter on the scene to interview the Toddler during the vigil.
It must have been The Robber Mice! Mice are notorious for their love of peanut butter and penguin painting! (How exactly does Pengo answer to his name?)
The Woman is soaping, scrubbing and washing a lot of creatures lately. First Lupin after his close encounter with the blue pen (and really, Lupin there was no denying it was you!) and now Pengo. Enquiring minds want to know “Who’s next?”
Megan walked back to where she had left Tre-C and Hector; she’d only been gone a few minutes. “Tre-C, Hector, we need to look into this…” Tre-C tilted her head, Hector walked over to where Megan was standing and stood on his back legs; “What is it?” Megan was looking at a printout she made of an Email. “Let me read this to you…” She went on…”Looking for a good time? We have the best, the newest, the most enticing entertainment in the city.” Megan knew this was a solicitation, she’d gotten thousands of them since opening her account. But there were two things in particular that troubled her. First, the address of this new nightspot was only a few blocks from Kip’s “Purloined Litter”. That may just be good, old fashioned competition, and Megan would not go overboard over a new lounge in town. But she was a little concerned about the phrase “enticing entertainment.” This, she thought, was a People phrase- and had the potential for trouble. With a capital T.
Awww. Pucky’s concerned eyebrows and sad ears In panel 3! And wasn’t it nice of the Woman to provide the Toddler with a stool to sit on as he waits for the return of his (still hungry?) friend?
Good morning and happy Monday/Funday, orbsters and orbabies! BCN is number one this morning, isn’t that wonderful news? I love how all the cats worry about poor Pengo, and the toddler is sitting so patiently (wonder how long that’ll last?).
This reminds me of when I was a kid. My buddy next door had two teddy bears named “Baby” and “Staddot”. His mama would wash them both in the washer and then hang them on the clothes line to dry. Never understood why Baby was the bigger bear…
Every year when the Summer heat turns to chill at night, Leo wanders around yowling day and night for about a week. This is the 12th yr (he’s 15) that he’s done it. It’s like he’s the town crier “Alert! Fall has Arrived! My dna says we must stockpile food!” (as if it’s not available 24/7…) Silly sweet boy <3 Does anyone else’s kitty do this?
Our continuing breaking story of the, Antarctic Bird Caught in Peanut Butter Spill! We go live, with our brave reporter, Puck, who is reporting from the decontamination chamber…
Memories, mostly from my kids’ childhood. I think children are born with enormous amounts of love. Some keep it into adulthood. Some lose it and never regain it. Some find it again, if somewhat seasoned by experience.
Peanut butter is not the best medium to paint with. However if there was a dog friend the Woman would have much less scrubbing to do. All that would remain is dog slobber and the washer would get that right out.
The boys have been packed off to the vet for snipping. I very astutely made myself unavailable for the round up and loading of the carrier. They will forever ( a couple days) associate the snippage with the NumNum giver.
But the flash news is the reaction at home. The girls could give a hoot. They are older and mostly view the kittens as a moderately tolerable whirlwind in need of occasional slapping. (Go…I say, go away boy, ya bother me)
On the other hand the year old boys are quite stricken. Lewis is to be expected as he and Elvis have pretty much hit it off as stampede buddies. They thunder through the house at great speed together without apparent rhyme or reason. But the surprise is Clark.
He is a cat. Unlike most of our other mush brains who crave attention and human contact, Clark accepts cats and the giants on his own terms. He will get rubbies ONLY when he decides to seek them out. He will engage in cat like games with others at his convenience only.
So, when Lisa returned from the vet without the carrier it quite the surprise to see Clark looking at her in confusion. He spent an hour mooching around the house in all the kitten places, then walking up to Lisa with a forlorn look, giving his little “merp?”
Can’t fool us, Clark. You’re just a big softie behind that aloof exterior. Not to worry buddy. They will be home tomorrow. A little groggy and sore, but right as rain in a day or three.
While watching “Star Trek: Voyager” last night it occurred to me that, when she wears her hair down, Capt. Janeway bears a more-than-passing resemblance to Georgia Dunn…
All the fuzzy member of the household are feeling this one. Glad to see Puck keeping the Toddler company during they most intense “TV” watching experience of his young life.

Another incident that, I’m sure, is in no way based on real life. All such incidents are purely the imagination of the author.

Alas, poor Pengo! We knew him well…
But luckily Puck is there to provide fuzzy comfort until Pengo’s inevitable resurrection. Shakespearean tragedy, this is not.

Guys, has anyone asked Pengo if he even LIKES peanut butter? Or if he has an allergy? These could be important questions…

It’s not the washing that’s a problem. It’s the spin cycle that’s gonna hurt.
