Lucas Miller, who was representative of the kind of deep thought our elected Representatives bring to the capital. The kind of value for money still seen today.
“Hood ornaments originally had thermometers” doesn’t sound right. Originally there was nothing, and then came the thermometers, on top of the radiator (not the hood). Later on, there were also ornaments, which sometimes were or could be combined with the thermometer, but also existed as a separate item (on top or in front of the thermometer). And later on, as the thermometers moved onto the dashboard, the ornament stood alone on top of the radiator or the hood.
It seems harsh, but the quokkas’ behavior might actually make sense for that species. If the mother can’t hide, but has to run, carrying the baby would slow her down, increasing the chances she would be caught, and they would both die. If she drops the baby and tries to sacrifice her life by distracting the predator, leading it away from the baby, she might be killed by the predator, while the baby dies of starvation, thirst, or exposure. Dropping the baby and running might give them the best chance that one will survive.

Miller should have waited until 1993 to propose that. Given how strong the U.S. economy was then, that would have bee appropriate. ; )

Sounds like Quokkas went to the Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons School of Survival Training: “Bye Bye Baby (Baby, Goodbye)”

Not surprisingly, Lucas Miller (D–Wisconsin) served only one term.

So we can presume quokkas will never win the “Parent of the Year” award.

Quokka. Ancient language for entitled welfare recipients?

I’ll bet that anyone in my octogenerian age group knows that the hood ornaments on antique cars were also thermometers!

That’s why I take my wife along when hiking in bear country. I don’t have to be faster than the bear, just faster than her.

So, hood ornaments were originally radiator caps?

Is that Miller thing where the joke “you know the United States isn’t the whole world right?” comes from?

If Miller had his way, we would be calling people of the USE Users.

Miller was actually ahead of his times. The state of Hawaii is not part of America (North or South).

Used to have a car that had one of those thermometers.
