My family abandoned that tradition long ago in favor of voting for different themes like French, German, Italian, Jewish or a mix of Asian cooking. And at Christmas we almost always have friends and family over for Tex-Mex with a nice big taco bar and plenty of beers. People start asking if we’re still doing it months in advance hoping for a place at the table. It’s nice having so many ethnicities in my friends and family that one’s tradition doesn’t dominate the others.
NTHAWK Now if the people who have never actually had a conversation with anyone who wasn’t middle American white could just understand that. And, there are bunches of them, I’m related to at least half of them. They are scared that their way of life will be destroyed when “those people” move in. It doesn’t need to. They can choose to just refuse to acknowledge their existence and remain in their own boring little world. Or, they can open themselves up to experiences, ideas, and food that is new to them and come to the understanding that everyone has something to contribute to the richness of the human experience.
We used to alternate each by cooking prime rib and all the fixings, then the next year with a turkey ‘n all the trimmings ! Now there’s just the two of us, and we get a phone call or an email explaining why they can’t come again this year !

The meal looks completely nauseous!!!! One taste of it and you won’t have to worry about eating ever again….at least, in the kitchen..

One year a friend made turkey pizza for Thanksgiving.

You still can. It is, yet, a more or less free country. You can have pizza and beer for all the major holidays!

I’d rather eat that “slop” as you call it, rather than even looking at a pizza,

I see the toast, but where’s the popcorn?

Go and buy your dinner pre-made… there are a ton of places that sell a ready-made Thanksgiving feast for not a lot of money.
