Pogo appears today… when I was still in college (around 1989), I remember a re-launch of the Pogo comic strip. I’ll have to look up when it died off again…
The Shadow was a newspaper strip, in addition to being a pulp magazine, a comic book, and a radio show. Walter Gibson invented the character, and wrote two novels a month – about 300 total. And about a hundred other books, mostly about magic. And I guess he had a little free time, since he also wrote the comic strip.
This right here is why I love Gasoline Alley so much. A great backstory, simple, homespun humor, exceptional art and respect for the comic and the comics. I hope to see you in another 100 years, Uncle Walt. If he can hang around like this, I don’t see why I can’t!

I see Moon Mullins and Mamie on the right, I go Pogo at the bottom left, while only The Shadow knows the guy on the left edge.

I think the guy on the left edge is Harold Teen’s “fran”, Shadow Smart.

“… for future comics to live by!” Methinks that’s saying something.
