That’s not the point! Grandpa scared Jojo with his story. Many children develop what adults would call irrational fears, because they are children and cannot process what they hear and see, and thus, the idea planted grows out of proportion. Add in wildly imaginative thought processes and there you have it; a child who is afraid a meteor will fall out of the sky on him and the football helmet will protect him…after all, it protects his uncles…
googled it, the odds of being killed by a meteor, asteroid, or comet are 1 in 1.6 million. Of course most of those times the asteroid won’t just kill you, it’ll obliterate the entire city, and a football helmet won’t protect you from that. I also checked and found that there is only ONE recorded case of a person being hit by a small space rock, though there are a couple more of meteors smashing cars or going through roofs.
When I was in school, the things was hiding under your desk if we got hit with a bomb. My dad told me to do it so I wouldn’t get in trouble, but he pointed out if a bomb came through the roof the desk wouldn’t stop it, either.

Jojo is somewhat dense. He may not need a helmet to withstand mere meteorites.

A football helmet is not going to protect you from a meteorite.

A woman did survive a small meteorite crashing through her house and hitting; her in bed. She had one bad bruise from it.
