What’s with the second Magi’s sheep? Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh I remember. Maybe he was visually challenged. In that case, he “Only had Ewe for Eyes.” Happy Holidays, everybody.
I don’t mean to be a wet blanket, but the number of Iranian astrologers is unknown (for a time four was traditional) and they were not present at the birth. They clearly state to Herod that the new king of Israel HAS BEEN born; they then go to “Mary’s house” in Bethlehem to pay their respects (not that they have any reason to), the king then decides to rub out all two-year-old boys, and modern scholarship generally holds that the legend (which is absurd on a number of levels) envisions the epiphany as taking place when baby Jesus was about two.
And quite unnecessary; Judea-Samaria was basically a police state, and it wouldn’t have required any effort at all to find out exactly where a passel of exotic travelers had called, in a sleepy burg like Bethlehem. People would be talking about it for weeks.
Lio has somehow got his hands on the very classic Time Machine from the movie! And his impulse is so very Christmassy. I wouldn’t necessarily christen him “the Fourth Wiseman,” though….
The kid bearing a lamb in the middle in the last panel is not a magi, but a shepherd. Notice that the previous panel shows two men with shepherd’s crooks and the one with the lamb around his shoulders. Probably one of the magi on the camel. Nice of Mark to remember the shepherds as well as magi.

At first glance this seems to be a little snide, but it’s perfectly in keeping with Liō’s thinking. He means it sincerely.
