Kind of like when my friend growing up told me about heat lightning (didn’t believe him) and when I told him I thought water would freeze if the temperature stayed 33 degrees for long enough (he disagreed). He’s now a doctor.
Wow, this echoes so many conversations these days… The latest was the young man being asked on tv about boosters, and the guy blew them and the entire pandemic off saying, “it’s not like the virus has killed anyone.” (And just btw, if this devolves into a debate about the plague or vacines, I’ll just delete my comment, so don’t waste finger energy here, it won’t get any airplay.)
Pumbaa and Timon echo the argument in The Lion King. Pumbaa calls it a ball of “burning gas”, which is pretty accurate for a warthog, and the know-it-all meerkat Timon pooh-poohs the idea, ascribing the idea to the workings of the warthog’s digestive system.

Sorry, Lucy, but Charlie Brown’s right. The surface temperature of the sun is more than 1, 000 degrees.

Well, it’s a ball of fire….but it’s not hanging in the “air”. Still, makes you wonder what LUCY thinks it is.

Goodness gracious! What’s the original publication date for this strip? Jerry Lee Lewis’s song came out in 1957.

Well, she is right about one thing. It’s not hanging in the air, otherwise astronauts wouldn’t need an oxygen supply in space.

Someone should take her to space to see that everything floats.

Stars aren’t balls of fire, they are fusion reactors. Very hot plasmas.

Bet Lucy is a geocentrist, like 26% of Americans, good grief.
