“Half empty” means it is halfway through the process of emptying. “Half full” means it’s halfway through the process of filling. So she is definitely an optimist and he is getting smarter all the time.

Now that is a burn if I’ve ever heard one.

To which he should reply, “When I said you were a wit, I was half-right”!

Given Shoe’s personality and his traditional relationship with women, the joke would have been funnier (but less PC) if he would have delivered the punch line to her, “So, your brain is half full instead of half empty.”
