Big Tobacco. Big Carbon (coal and oil). Denying science, peddling scams to sell their destructive filth, and sacrificing our climate and environment and our children’s futures on the oil-stained altar of short-term corporate profits.
Big Pharma is almost in the same boat. They develop worthy, life-saving products, but then withhold them and say “Your money or your life” if you actually want to use them.
But there’s NO evidence of any links to lung cancer — because there are scientists who found no link at all.
.
It’s good to remember that the same techniques used by Big Tobacco are now used by today’s Republicans to prove there’s no such thing as global warming.
In many instances they are also the same exact people.
So do we legislate to stop adults from engaging in activities that are harmful? Where do we as a society draw the line and let people make decisions for themselves for good or ill ?
For some reason, I forgot that Sunday strips are still new. Maybe because Mr. Butts hasn’t been used in a long time, but was recently seen in the reruns from the first Iraq war, so I just connected this with those. It was only with the punchline about “s—-hole countries” that I caught on.
Ya, I have no problem with smoker/vapers as long as we keep them a safe distance away. And limit taxpayer-funded health care for emphysema/cancer/due to proven individuals use of same. Would even say that proven heavy pot-smokers and alcoholics be public health care limited as well on related diseases. Coal miners and other hazardous-duty occupations would remain fully covered as it was done as means of support. Nobody ever smoked as part of an income/tax-paying endeavor. Nicotine as crutch? Gum and patches have been available long time. No excuse for self-destructive behavior.
You wanna smoke, or Vape? Fine. Just DON’T force OTHER PEOPLE to share in your slow suicide by forcing them to breathe in the side effects! THAT’S why there are designated “No Smoking” laws, to protect OTHERS from YOUR selfishness. Don’t like it? DEAL WITH IT!
I suppose each generation has to develop its own crutch. There is usually some carry over but, for the most part, we are pretty good about finding stuff that is supposed to be ‘good for us’ and turning it into something awful. So the cycle continues.
We have family still smoking.Three important members have passed. Two quit, and had longer lives. One didn’t,and died st 48.It does help, when giving up a bad habit ;)
The sad part is that like regular cigarettes long ago, many of the kids who are vaping think it is safe. They think it is a safe alternative to regular cigarettes. It took years before cigarette smoking was considered as dangerous as we see it today. Vaping also has been known to cause explosions to unsuspecting users. There needs to be a new campaign against vaping. Some didn’t take the Surgeon General’s report against smoking of 1964 to heart, but then again, many did. Of course, this is the Trump era, so I don’t expect much. Public health isn’t the biggest concern these days.
Simple way to cut down on teen vaping is simply require vaping devices to emit no visible vapor. The visual is as important as the content for young vapers. If the device emitted no visible steam then vaping would be like using an asthma inhaler — nobody shows off their exhalations when using one. Usage would drop dramatically, and far fewer new users would sign up. New users don’t start because they like the effects of nicotine; they start because it “looks cool.”
One dirty secret of those vaping devices is that they deliver up to 50 times the amount of addictive nicotine than cigarettes. I’m sure the Tobacco industry wants to keep that one quiet.
“The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot do so well, for themselves, in their separate and individual capacities.” —Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), 16th US president
Over 480,000 people die every year in the United States due to smoking, plus many more from 2nd hand smoke. That’s over 1300 people a day.
Vaping is a form of Harm Reduction (like condoms, seat belts, helmets, and many other products that reduce risk). E-cigs are 95% safer than smoking. (remember, nothing in life is 100% safe). Vaping is the consumer solution to the tobacco problem. 2nd hand vapor has been tested and found to pose no risk to those around them.
It is illegal to sell vapor products to anyone under 18 in the United States. It is an adult product developed to help adult smokers quit smoking. If youth are vaping, we have an enforcement issue. Either it is being sold to kids or bought for kids. Those parties AND the kids using them should be held accountable.
Somehow, the “war on smoking” turned into the war on nicotine. Nicotine does not kill people, and does not cause cancer. The only proof of nicotine being addictive is when smoked / burned. The FDA says there is little risk of becoming addicted to nicotine in patches, lozenges, inhalers, or gum used to help smokers quit smoking. The nicotine in those products is the same nicotine used in vapor products. There is a documentary being filmed right now about nicotine. It is called “You Don’t Know Nicotine”. I’m looking forward to seeing it when it is released next year.
Next time somebody tells you that nicotine causes brain damage, ask them to see proof in human studies. Think about it. Years ago, the majority of the people smoked, and most started as teens. We sent people to the moon, with very limited technology. If those people were all brain damaged from nicotine, how did they achieve such a breakthrough? What about Einstein? He was a smoker, too. Was he brain damaged.

One dab on Juuly gives as much nicotine as a full pack of Buttsie. Nicotine being as, if not more, addictive than opiates, what a market booster.

Might be a good idea to legislate to stop this stuff from being marketed to children.

Only a matter of a couple years before Big Cig also starts their takeover of the MJ Biz.
They’re just waiting until Congress makes it legal to ship across State Lines and put the Cash into the Bank.
