Or, jack-rabbits the clutch, launching the car up in the air? I did that with my mother’s 1966 VW Beetle, with my terrified dad in the passenger’s seat. After that, he gave me the keys and told me to teach myself. Never had another issue with driving and passed my driver’s exam first try. :D
I taught myself driving on a 1972 Herald (US readers may have to Google). Sat in the seat for long hours, practising gear and clutch sequences. One day when I was 14, I convinced our usual mechanic that I could drive the car home after a regular service! My father’s colour as I turned in at our gate was unusual!!
I learned to drive in the 67 Pontiac Tempest my parents got for me. Yes, I was a wee bit spoilt. To be fair, it was in 76 :) And they bought my sister and brother their first as well.
My father made me take my driving test in his boat of a Ford Country Squire. I told him I would fail! I didn’t do it on purpose, I just could not do a three-point turn in it! Took it in my own car, passed with flying colors! :)
Actually the “Best” getaway drivers know to drive a non-descript car or minivan, in a safe way that doesn’t attract police attention. If you can stay “under the radar,” don’t speed or drive in a hazardous manner often you can get away, until other evidence gives you away.

So, how long until Toby runs over the mailbox, gets a speeding ticket, runs a stop-light, and rear-ends a cop?

It may still be your getaway car. But tell me, what are you getting away from?

If he really wants to rain on his parade get a minivan or station-wagon for him to learn on.

Just think of it as a getaway from a date that wants to go to the opera.
