I’d toss them too. You should wait for the banana to just get a tiny bit overripe, then mash it up and use it in banana cupcakes, banana bread, banana pancakes, etc.
Lucky for Elly she didn’t go ahead and have to taste the results of her cooking cos I reckon those black bananas were just a “tad” past their use by date!
If just the outside is black, they’re still good, but they don’t look ap-pealing. Judging from the look of it, those bananas are long gone. You’d have to be bananas to eat them.
I always freeze bananas before I use them in baking or smoothies. Partially thaw them and they’re mushy and perfect plus the added bonus of not having to throw out overripe bananas.
I got tired of throwing away black bananas, so when they become really ripe, I peel and freeze them. I can make banana bread or muffins and smoothies any time I want.
I had so many things in my freezer that I might use later for a cake or something like that. I threw it all out when we moved and resolved never to do it again. I never used any of it! (And I’ve managed to keep the resolution.)
I eat them very yellow — I like the more subtle flavor before they start getting brown spots. But the ones that do get old make their way into my freezer (first I peel them and wrap them in foil) and eventually into my blender for smoothies.
Awww, Elly, why’d you give in? Those were not only black but dehydrated and concentrated by the cold dry air. The caramelized sugars in those bananas would have tasted amazing. Though I would recommend first scraping them out like fat vanilla beans and then freezing just the pulp.

They look more like vanilla beans than ripe bananas.

If you are planting a rosebush, put bananas into the hole. If you have an established rosebush, bury bananas close to it.

When bananas get to the ‘soft serve’ stage, pour the pulp into a container then freeze them.

Hanging a black banana on a tree branch draws butterflies, or in our case – bugs.

Storing the bananas in the refrigerator is a good way of betting ‘black bananas,’ that are not truly ripe.

My grandad never ate a banana until the skin was black.

When your bananas reach that state, the only thing they’re good for is the compost pile.

There was one strip where Elly was cleaning out the refrigerator, but I cannot recall the exact date.
Elly{looking at some food}: “Heaven knows how long this has been sitting here.”
Elly opens Tupperware container and is repulsed by the stench that escapes
Elly: “PU! That smells like Michael’s room!”
Elly dumps all the spoiled food into a garbage bag
Elly: :Even though all this food is rotten, I still feel guilty throwing it out…"
Elly{talking to herself}: “….My mother would have made it into a casserole”.

I would do that too. Put them in the freezer and then never use them to make the various things you can use them for.

I like my bananas slightly green. Once the skin turns black use it fast.
