I got myself a reputation for eccentricity years ago when I was young (actually, I was just ditzy but managed to spin it.) Now, nobody tries to tell me much of anything; they figure it’s pointless. Which is true because now I really am eccentric (I must be; I’m too old to be ditzy).
That’s one of Satchel Paige’s most famous quotes, largely because (to borrow from a great baseball quote that somehow wasn’t his), he could back it up. Sometimes I wonder if he played as long as he did because he had to if the rest of us, in our insulated and often ignorant section of the bleachers, were ever going to get around to noticing just how freakishly good he was.
It makes me sad that the quote could go both ways — I’ve seen far too many people who didn’t seem to know how young they were — but if it takes going both ways to go the one way, that’s a deal I can live with. Hopefully for a long time, and hopefully I’ll remember not to ever know just how long.

I’ve never been this age before, so I don’t know how to act.

If you think you’re too old to try something….how old will you be if you didn’t try?

Old enough to know better, too young to care.

Frazz should tell Caulfield that Satchel was a 42-year-old Major League rookie, and why.

Maturity is usually based on years, when in reality it’s more about attitude.

When I was still a kid, I could hardly wait until I grew up and knew all the answers. I’m 74 now. Still waiting. 8^(

Didn’t Heisenberg say that you can’t know you age AND where you’re going at the same time?
Stephen Gilberg almost 6 years ago
Oh, I thought he meant “born in 1906.” Which is unlikely for Frazz’s grandpa.

Around 12 years old. Old enough not to do something too stupid, young enough to try nearly everything. :)

I learned to be like I am and feeling good with it. I count my age in dreams left to live.
