What in the world is Mordred’s mask made of? The eyes and mouth are functional.
After all of Tracy’s bad decisions, one would think that Sam would know him well enough to realize that Tracy often makes wrong moves. For example, the recent power approach.
Panel 1: Texting and driving is illegal in most places now Locher, get with it.
Panel 2: Whered that light come from?
Panel 3: Again, whered that light around Tracys face come from?
Panel 4: Is Tracy aware that a hand is bulging out of his chin and opening that door?
Panel 5: Why in the World does Mordred keep changing colors? Is he orange? Blue? Purple? What? Inquiring minds want to know!
Panel 6: Your threats are lame Mordred.
Panel 7: After you just threatened him Mordred? What do you think he is, an idiot? Dont answer that.
Panel 8: Tracy is armed with what, his razor sharp wit?
Ah well, at least this Sunday something actually happened.
No, Horn Hair, it’s “Somewhere, out there … ” Not that you’re the next Linda Ronstadt.
As for the rest of this concentrated stupidity, it’s about Time Locher remembered to tell everyone it’s a “Lonely rural area.” Thanks, dorkmeister, nobody would have suspected that, what with mere clues such as the lack of buildings and the open spaces.
Tracy will probably strike a match and set the granary afire! (He has waterproof matches). Then the fire dept. will arrive (in the storm) and save the day…
Remove the chains and set him free
All the while he’ll go, ha, ha, hee
A killer that has made threats on your life
With danger, the situation is rife
Your wet and tired and the night is long
Surely there’s nothing that can go wrong
So relax, free him, let down your guard
Police procedures you should disregard
Tracy’s a sap, a simpleton for sure
And this story is a load of manure
Each day it just goes from bad to worse
A situation that is indeed, most perverse
Oh, how we lament what has happened to this dick
It’s such a travesty, it almost makes you sick.
From yesterday, Thank you Nvash and Gweedo Murray. Great installment BB6.
How does Thick know the door is creaky before he opens it? And does anyone in the real world grip a doorknob like that?
Panel #5, where Mordred makes the comment about the funeral, is abnormally good. Thick has an appropriate look of his exasperation on his face. He might almost be a typical reader of this strip.
Remarkably, Thick has enough sense to get out of the rain. Who’d have thought?
Flightsuit, I have to ask. You mentioned, twice, and Tcay mentioned at least that often, that the intersection was in a major city. How did you come to that conclusion? Maybe the officer re-directing traffic? Certainly I saw no major buildings around the flooded intersection. Not that it matters in one sense, city or country Tracy’s power approach has to rate right up there as one of the most blockheaded ideas ever. Just that in the city, people would have seen and help— if not the lame-o police then at least help of some sort– would have been there at once. In open country if something like that happens, you could be on your own.
Real-life example— Out in La Salle County, there was an accident last month. The husband died in the wreck, the wife’s body was found about a mile away. It happened in rural area, no help readily available. Had the same accident happened in the city, she might have survived.
WW - Interesting question. I tried illustrating his first Annie story and posting the strips on PhotoBucket, but the PhotoBucket Administration kicked me off for violation of Terms of Service. I suppose it had to do with copyrights.
Michael, my comments about whether they’re in the city are based mainly on the fact that Locher showed us Dick driving away from the police station, and then almost immediately he came to the intersection with the cop first telling him there were a bunch of cars with flat tires and then, suddenly, it had changed to a flooded intersection.
If a bunch of time had elapsed, and miles had been covered, between Dick leaving the police station and reaching the intersection, Locher certainly gave us no indication of this.
davidf42, that is very weird about PhotoBucket. I’ve certainly posted numerous copyrighted images on my PhotoBucket account, and I’ve never had a problem.
Flight Suit, copyright enforcement varies with the holder. Some copyright holders are zealous about busting any infringement. Others are more relaxed–or can’t afford lawyers, I suppose. (Some even see it as beneficial; Janis Ian’s attitude toward posting her music is that it generates free publicity and increases her album sales.). There was a time, though, when George Lucas would sue people for any use of the word “droid” that didn’t involve Star Wars.
Some usages are protected, such as satire, and reviews can make use of small amounts of copyrighted material. Basically, if the owner can make money off a property, they want to protect the copyright; ignoring it can set a precedent that cuts into their business.
@Michael McMillan:
The reason many of us think the intersection was originally in the city is: If you go back to the December 23 strip when Tracy first started talking about taking a power approach he said he was at a street corner. Most of us would not refer to a country road intersection as a “street corner”. I don’t think you can really defend Locher on this one given that dialog and the other points that FlightSuit brought up.
WW
Another good one. About the only thing that brings us back. It certainly isn’t the story with all the action in it. When did Tracy unbutton his shirt collar?
A day or so ago, when they first spotted the granary, Thick’s shirt collar was starched and ironed better’n only a Chinese laundry could do. His tie was as neat as a pin. Today, it looks like Thick is in a real hurry to get in the house and undress for the doctor. He’s not going to even wait to spin the bottle.
“The week ahead… six days of conversation between Mordred and Tracy inside the granary…”
I have the unhappy feeling that should be “The days ahead… six weeks of conversation between Mordred and Tracy inside the granary…”
Even with Mordred’s being bound up and Tracy’s being armed, there is cause for worry because Tracy is a blithering idiot…as he will demonstrate soon by taking off the chains that mysteriously reattached themselves to the Doc after their removal in the submerged car.
tcayer, Locher has been so inept here that there’s no certainty over what is going on–especially after that panel-shuffle schtick. One possibility is that the second stop-sign cop was at the edge of town and watching one of the roads that led into the boondocks.
Another possibility is that the Dipsy Duo is actually still inside Rivertown, and they’ve stumbled across a pioneer village sort of amusement park-stroke-museum–one of those places where people re-enact life in bygone times.
Or maybe Locher and Brozman shouldn’t smoke anything stronger than corn silk.
You know, I don’t think I could recognize a “Granary” on a bright sunny day, yet these guys not only recognize it in a driving rain, but observe that it’s abandoned. What are they both - farm boys?
Speaking of sedated, how is this man even moving? Shouldnt he be sitting somewhere mumbling? Hes walking, talking, threatening lives, is he sedated at all or did someone just say that? I think theyre just trying to tell Tracy that because they knew he wouldnt notice something was amiss. Clearly tts a giant conspiracy to kill him off and everyone is in on it! Mordred is going to get into the granary, break out of his chains like some sort of oven head Superman and murder Tracy!
NVash, not everyone has the same reaction to any given medication. Mordred might have a high tolerance for whatever drug he received; it might not have a sedative effect on him at all. It might even have had unwanted side-effects that made him mentally unstable or put his health at risk. (This is one of the many stupidities in this arc. Under some circumstances it is permissible to transport a sedated prisoner, but competent medical care is supposed to be present at all times. A competent doctor, nurse or other attendant would realize that Mordred wasn’t sedated properly.)
Worst-case scenario for Thick: The chains have cheap locks and the drug has given Mordred hysterical strength. He manages to burst out of the chains without injuring himself, then grabs Thick and has him for lunch.
Hmmm—- I wonder. The country vs city issue about where the intersection is— the granary that might be in the country or could be in the city— Tracy and Mordred wandering around in the storm—–
I suddenly know where we are, and it’s terrifying.
We’re in the “Locher Zone” (insert old “Twilight Zone” theme music here.)
Nothing in the Locher Zone makes sense as we understand it in the normal world. We’re prisoners in the fantasy of a twisted mind. It’s too late for us, but for those of you who stumble upon this for the first time, run for your lives. Save yourselves and never— whatever you do— look back.
I remember reading where the police in one city focused on stopping dangerous drivers. one week.
One person they stopped on the expressway, was a woman, who had her vehicle on cruise control, steering the car with her knees while putting on her make-up
———————————————————————-
Now Tracy’s vehicle sunk in the city and they have found their way to a Lonely Rural area.
